DDNS services

[link to this post]

Hi
I am about to join VM from plusNet where I currently have a static IP address.

I understand that VM does not offer static addresses so I was thinking to use a DDNS service.

From what I have read, there is nothing on the Vm hub that allows this so therefore my understanding is that the only way to do this is to set the VM hub into modem mode, and use my existing router to log into the hub and set the DDNS (as it is capable of doing this itself)

Is this correct or have I missed something?

Thanks in advance
Ian

The VM IP address is quite sticky. I've been on VM for two years and still have the same IP address. During this time the Superhub has been switched off for periods of two weeks whilst I have been away on vacation and the IP address has not changed. So, do you need DDNS?

Where as I used to have it change often. SO not sure if it's area or resource dependant.

My experience with other ISP's is that it works off the MAC address.
I had two routers once (the ISP's and my own) and realised I had two different IP addresses depending on which was connected.

Thats correct.

When i put my Superhub 2 in modem mode and connected a router which was a different MAC i was issued with a new IP.
