Gave in and joined

As title, although I'm not overly enamoured with Virgin - I've conceded they are the only speed option for my local area and signed up for their 50mb service.

Anything I should look out for? I don't visit newsgroups or use torrents so I'm guess I shouldn't be effected by throttling - the house usage is general web browsing, iPlayer and Netflix.

I'm still keeping my zen connection, but I'll drop the packaging down to Zen Lite.

/edit - must edit the signature!

Current on Zen, getting 4876 down - 744 up
Exchange is Fibre enabled, street cab not economically viable to upgrade.
Could get V*rgin, but I'd rather not.

There is no more throttling on the downside - only on upstream

Virgin have not updated their thresholds but if you go here and check XL60 then that's about right http://my.virginmedia.com/traffic-management/traffic...

it was 30/60/120 until it went to 50/100/152

This also explains it http://my.virginmedia.com/traffic-management/traffic...

Welcome - it can be blissful depending on your area. I would agree with keeping Zen. I have FTTC as well as Virgin so if one was to go down i'd be okay

Thanks for the info, the upload will only get used when I'm sending images up to my stock library - but the limit should be well under their threshold so hopefully it'll be o.k.

I will be monitoring it in the first few weeks as it needs to be as stable as my zen connection

You're welcome smile

VM do a 28 day money back guarantee anyway - I didn't pay my first bill till month 2.

I haven't been hit yet with STM and I keep forgetting about it - as I bond the VM upload with my FTTC I have done 10-15GB together and still had full upload so I am not sure if it's even working anymore.

Hi

When your connected setup a BQM to monitor connection quality and also find out what ubr you are on by going here and I can check to see its utilization status.

Also run speed test throughout the day so like 7am, 1am & 7pm. (if possible)

also check signal from within router GUI .... I can supply a direct link and instructions if required.

Thanks for the additional info. I'll see what I can do - it's not getting installed until the 22nd (I wanted a weekend installation).
