VM package - West Harrow (London)

[link to this post]

Hello

I am shortly moving into my new home in West Harrow and I have the option of four providers:

Virgin Media TV, Fibre and Phone - £68.50 (100mbps)
Sky - TV, Fibre, Phone - £85 (38mbps)
Zen - £47 (just internet)
PlusNet - £5

Now Ive never had any of these, currently and always have been with BT. Obviously Virgin makes most sense from a cost/value perspective but I want to know if anyone has experience with it in West Harrow? It seems everywhere I read about Virgin there are horror stories but then people also saying it's been perfect for them.

Can anyone who has VM in West Harrow please give feedback as to whether it has been reliable with speeds as advertised? No point in getting a good value package if the internet is unreliable.

I intend to post this in the other provider's forums as well as I'd like to get feedback on all of the ISP's in that area before making the decision.

Thank you very much

Seen you've asked on their forum as well. People often only go online to complain so perhaps no response is a good thing! A search for West Harrow returns nothing as well

Post Office ADSL 4mbps

Why aren't you including BT in your search, given you seem happy enough?

where did I say I was happy with BT? Ive said I've always had them, if I was interested in being with them when I move into the new house then I would've included them in the list surely?

You said "I have the option of four providers:"
I read it as that's the only providers you believed you could get. IE they were the only options available.
Sorry for misinterpretation.

Out of the options I use Sky Fibre and have no issues.

Virgin media can be hit & miss down to the street level. One street fine, the next congested.
I had a poor experience with them.

PlusNet have recently had some issues, not major though.

Zen I am sure is very good although no doubt more expensive (I have never used Zen though just always hear good reports).

Out of those personally I would choose PlusNet or Sky. You say you are unhappy with BT, it is worth making you aware that PlusNet is a subsidiary (is that the right word) of BT although run fairly different, so backhaul etc is likely to be somewhat similar. Hence edging towards Sky.

Virgin or Sky seemed most likely to offer the service you want

I've never had sky tv,bt or virgin

the only one I've used is talktalks youview and it seems pretty nice for what it is

freeview with recorder and some ondemand services.

SKY FTTC - 40/10

"I have the option of four providers:"

Surely this intimates these are the only providers available.

Was Eclipse Home Option 1, VM 2Mb & O2 Standard
Now Utility Warehouse (up to 16mbps) via Talk Talk

hold on, lets create a new thread about the use of the word 'option' and its meaning to each respective party in different instances. What a joke.

This has already been cleared up, I don't see why you felt the need to post your comment. In any case, to answer your redundant question - no. It does not 'surely' mean that those are the only providers available.

If I had said, these are 'the only' options available to me then yes that is clear cut and it means just that. However, having said that 'I have the option of four providers' can, granted, mean that these are the only options available or it can mean that these are options based on selection. Again, this was already cleared up.
