Slow homplugs/wifi Extender - PG-9072LG-VM

[link to this post]

Posted his on Virgin forum with no reply.

I got supplied with PG-9072LG-VM Wifi/Homeplug Extender.

The fastest I get over Ethernet is 100Mbps, surely it should be quicker than that?

I can't seem to find the specs for them online.

1000/1000 - the fastest I've seen on a speedtest was about 140Mbps, usually around 100 or under.

Thats not bad for power plugs, some have software that lets you see what speed each plug is connected at so you can optimise the locations you have them plugged in

Thats a test just done with them, i'm only bout 20m upstairs away from the hub using the adapter, I thought these things would be as fast as ethernet, as they boast even 600Mbps for the cheap ones on amazon

That's a good speed result for using that product. It's a rebadged version of the Comtrend PG-9072LG which is now an older model than the current generation from Comtrend.

600 Mbps that once overheads and other things are taken into account mean in an ideal situation something around 250 Mbps, but very few people live in ideal lab type conditions.

People complain about broadband overstating, but the fixed line services have nothing on the wireless and HomePlug kit sold

I've just sent a pair of TP-LINK 7010PKIT's back as although I could get a link speed of 972Mbps when they were plugged into the same double socket, putting one downstairs dropped the link speed to 312Mbps. On speedtests I was barely getting above 80Mbps, less than the 92-95 I was getting on Wi-Fi!

Your speeds are pretty good, I used to get 40Mbps on a 1gbps set.

I have always found a strong 5Ghz WiFi network all over, linked with Ethernet gives me a better network than powerline.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I'll do with the around 100Mb.

Until I'm allowed to run Ethernet around the house lol

When was your house last rewired? The wiring quality makes a huge difference with Homeplugs. I used to get 250mb on my gigabit set, but had my house rewired in 2016, so the cabling was newer and of better standard than the stuff used in the late 80's when it was built.

The wiring will have been there since it was made, probably in the 80s.
