Shameless plug for new VoIP utility

[link to this post]

This is a shameless plug for a nifty little VoIP / PBX utility I've co-written. It's a free tray app which sits and monitors your device, displaying messages when your line goes on/offline, when you make/receive a call or any other significant event.

More details at http://www.lothianproductions.co.uk/hvoipm/

It's designed to be extensible for other VoIP devices - currently we only support the Linksys PAP2 (Sipura 2000) and handsets connected to a Nortel Business Communication Manager PBX (via TAPI). In theory other Sipura devices and other TAPI PBX systems should work, and more drivers will come if there is enough interest.

We'd love people to have a try, so we can find out what other VoIP devices (probably other Sipura clones) are supported straight-off. If you have a different VoIP device, but fancy having a bash at writing your own monitor plugin for it, have a look at the app and drop me any queries.

I'm hoping this doesn't sound too like blatent marketing, as it's a free utility, and we want feedback to influence future development and improvements.

Just had a quick play with that on the Windows box, and it's pretty damn cool.. got it querying my PAP2 in less than a minute.

Andrew,

Your utility was working fine until I upgraded the firmware on my PAP2 to 3.1.7(LSd) .

I've got some of the older firmwares if you want them

To be honest, 3.1.7 seems to just be a bugfix release, with no actual "fetures" added, so it should be save enough to revert down a little to an older version.

Let me know if you want them and i'll upload.

Thanks Martyn, the PAP2 itself is working fine, it is only this utility that the new firmware has broken. The error I get on an incoming call is Tone "Ring - Hold" incorrectly mapped to "". I think another entry is required in the acceptable tone values section of Hardware VoIP Monitor.exe.config.

OK, for those of you who are interested, I had to add the following entry to Hardware VoIP Monitor.exe.config:

<add key="LinksysPAP2DeviceMonitor:Tone:Ring - Hold" value="Call" />

Fixed in the latest build of the app. It would appear that 3.1.7 changed some of the call status values that we have to screen-scrape, due to the PAP2 not having any decent interface for querying the device.

On that note, and purely out of interest, does anyone know of any VoIP device that does have a proper system for querying the device, such as SNMP or TAPI? I can't believe there isn't at least one device out there where we won't have to rely on screen-scraping to get the neccessary data.

Thanks for all the feedback so far - it's much appreciated!

I also found that my PC would not shutdown while HVoIPM is running.

It would also be nice if HVoIPM started up automatically when Windows starts.

Sounds most interesting. Have just sent an email seeking information for a Speedtouch 190 ATA.
Look forward to the details.
