.com domain private whois

[link to this post]

Good evening all - got the right forum this time!

Possibly a bit naughty this. I want to buy a .com domain name (for personal email use, nothing business related or anything which will likely get my backside sued), however being the wimp I am I don't like the thought of someone knowing my address and phone number. After all the sensible chaps at nominet (wink) provide an opt-out for .co.uk.

Does anyone have any experience of companies which can register on behalf of you so that your details are not displayed?

Or any other thoughts/advice (including disapproval of doing this) welcome.

(Not sure I want to pay for a PO box btw)

Thanks wink

I register my domains through www.thatsthename.com... works fine for me (look for spotthehorse.com - its my domain but my details are kept private).

Users are like a virus - each causing a thousand tiny crises until the host finally dies.

There are many places that do this and costs vary.

Our friends at UKWSD do it - http://ukwebsolutionsdirect.co.uk/domains.php

The usual suspects like 123-REG, Fasthosts and i'm sure we do too smile

It is always best to get it from the moment of registration. Even if you do it 5 minutes after registration, your details will end up on public sites like http://whois.sc and appear to last a life time - even after any possible re-registration.

Basically, you mean to say, a service which can protect your information from people harvesting contact info through the Whois service for spamming activities. Yes, it is very much possible by opting to the Whoisprotection service, which shields the information of the registrant from people viewing on Internet. Using such kind of services, webmasters can get a sigh of relief from unethical activities.
