tiscali unlimited now going to be talktalk limited...

[link to this post]
have been a tiscali max 8mb unlimited subscriber for several years. talktalk have now taken over tiscali. they're asking me to "upgrade". now that i look into it it's going up £1 per month to £18.99, and instead of unlimited its's 40gb per month limited. not good.

i love the way they fail to mentin the specific details, actually finding out the "upgrade" specific details requies log in -- it's not easy (impossible it seems) to find those details listed normally. the normal listing is for 24mb speed -- not available to me where i am. anyway...

is there anyway i can get unlimited access for around £18 pm? i guess not. several years have gone by and things seem to have gone backwards if anything, certainly not forwards, from my perspective. my perspective is: my exchange is Walsham Le Willows

most depressing frown

any thought/ideas? thanks.

That exchange looks very limited in scope for unlimited broadband, as non of non-LLU offer unlimited for less than £20, probably looking at £60+ on nonLLU providers.

Without any LLU providers at the exchange then no.
Do you really require unlimited?
What GB usage do you actually go through in a month?

The ISP Plusnet do a 80GB product with traffic management, but at least they are open about it but you will need to have a good read about it on the website, otherwise it's going to be more expensive with some of the other ISPs.

>>> Premium traffic management

EDIT > just noticed your exchange is market 1
So the Plusnet 80 GB package will be 11.99 for the first 3 months then 19.99 thereafter.

Depends on your requirements from your connection as it is a market 1 exchange frown

Can you manage with just a couple of GB Mon-Fri 9am-6pm? If so you can get 2GB in that period plus 50GB off-peak (6pm-2am plus 6am-9am) and weekends plus 500GB 2am-6am for £20.95, off a better ISP than Tiscali ever was.

Or make that peak time 1GB and you can have the others the same for £17.95. Or still at £17.85, 1/25/750GB.

And so on and so on. AAISP.

i use p2p a lot. i'm not sure exactly how much but a lot.

blimey. how rubbish. i remember commuting on the tube (in london, obviously) in the mid 90's and there were BT ads pushing the idea of telecommuting with pictures of people using video phones. until just a bit before 2005 dial up was the best internet connection available here, a whole decade after those ads. and it's not like i live in the outer hebrides or something. less than a 100 miles from london.

hmm, that plusnet looks semi ok ish possibly. will look into that.

ha ha, on that sam knows broadband page it says:
BT have set a target date of Q2 2009 for the switch to 21CN for the Walsham Le Willows exchange
good oh.

ok thanks very much for the info/replies. much appreciated.
