Market 1 exchange?

[link to this post]

Hi
Im looking for a marker 1 exchange isp.
I am currently with ADSL24 on their office 45 package paying 30 a month.
I am looking to save some money as I dont use anywhere near the monthly allowance and cant justify paying so much.

I am currently looking at their office 15 package for 23 quid but was wondering if anyone had any cheaper alternatives?

I would like to remain on an adsl max pro package as my exchange is often congested and the traffic prioratisation often helps with ping for gaming.

Thanks

Huw

Looks like Plusnet are £23 too (Market 3, Pro), but apparently they won't be beaten on price, so it might be worth a phonecall.

Welcome to Ofcom's Market 1 victims group !
It's been very clear for some time now that the high prices do not bring competitors,
time something needs to be done.
Your best course of action is to complain to Ofcom via your MP.

... what could ofcom do though? Raise prices EVEN MORE to start to hint at it being commercially viable?

They can't force any LLU operators to move in at the exchange, any more than a town councillor couldn't force the construction of a large supermarket.

NO, as I said, that's NOT working. There is NO POINT in us paying TWICE what (close) neigbours pay.
So just remove the premium BT is forced to charge on Market 1 & 2 exchanges !!!
AFAIK the extra money goes to gov. or Ofcom, not BT ?
Anyone knows for sure ?

I was in the same boat - UKFSN Office 45 package at > £30pm. If you don't need the ISP based frills like email or web space have a look at Goscomb. I switched to their MAX Value package - 40gb monthly limit (total, there's no separate off-peak, and uploads count), 832k upload, at £21.60 incl vat, monthly contract. I think they are an Entanet L2TP reseller for this. The switch was pretty much immediate, and their tech support has been great so far in helping to sort out a line problem that predated the switch.

This was meant to be a temporary money saving solution until we get fibre next year, but looking at their website just now I see that they have started advertising a fibre service...

Well, the thing is you've got it the wrong way around - ofcom didn't bump the price in the countryside, they merely allowed a discount in the city.

Sure, same means to an end, but all they were doing was allowing those ISPs selling BT Wholesale connections to have a chance at competing with the LLU operators.

This is going to get WORSE.

The number of LLU connection is now dropping.
As the customers & ISP's see it now: LLU is dead, FTTC / FTTH is the heir apparent !
But FTTC is being firmly stiffled by the hand of BT, and the incompetence of Ofcom.
Until they resolve the duct / pole / network sharing etc. BT has a stronghold over FTTC and specialy the associated voice connection.

So what chance of Market 1 & 2 exchanges have ?
Not even a glimmer of a hope on the end of the tunnel, in fact it very much looks like a dead end !!!

Martin
