Best gaming isp in slough

[link to this post]

Heysmile

so i am looking to change my ISP from VM to, well, basically, anyone else. The utilisation on the slough exchange is just terrible atm, and i basically cant play anything online without monster lag. They keep moving the fix date back, and even then, tbh im skeptical its going to actually fix the issue.

so im wondering what are peoples experiences of isps in slough. i would prefer, if possible, experiences of either BT or Sky particularly, as im looking at getting a triple play package (Tv/phone/internet) but any experience of any isp that is suitible for gaming would be welcome.

Thankssmile

Hi, welcome to the forums.

There are three exchanges for Slough. If you are on VM ADSL, please can you put your phone number into this checker and give us the link to the result?

Or are you on VM Cable? Use your postcode if you are, and tell us that you are.

My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - IDNet Home Starter Fibre. Live BQM.

Well the world's your oyster there. But now we need to know if you can get FTTC, and the best way of checking that, as you haven't got a BT Landline, (or have you got one of those as well?) is definitely letting us know the postcode.

The reason for that is a simple postcode or address check will be unreliable for you, as it is "Available in some areas". We can check the postcode for whether or not it is completely supplied from cabinets, (good), or some directly from the exchange, (no FTTC possible).

That's good smile. All lines in that postcode are fed from Cabinet 71. Strange that is isn't already enabled though. Phase 5b, and in most of the country they are on Phases 7 thru 9.

You obviously know you will have to get a line as well, and you wll be OK for any FTTC supplier once it is there. I'm sure whichever you choose will be able to upgrade you.

How much actual P2P do you do? Mainly info for others now, as I'm no expert on triple play or gaming.

Tbh, i hardly do any these days. i would if possible like the option to get an unlimited connection, as there are times i need to download multi gigabyte files, but as im at work most of the day and only get to use my connection on evening and weekends, not overly important.

What id like ideally is a tv and broadband service that has either a good track record in low latency connections so i can play online games without the rediculious lag im getting right now, or a dedicated internet connection for a relatively low cost so i can stil purchase my tv and phone elsewhere. i dont really want to pay more than £40 a month for the whole caboodle so atm im kinda looking at the bigger players in the market.

Thanks reobertoS for your input, and any recommendations or experiences from anyone else in the slough area are most welcomesmile

Hi there,

I'm only 2 mins drive from you, at SL2 5BT and I'm on Slough Main exchange too.

The ISP I use is, and has been, pretty good so far. It's called Xilo and I have their 'Be Pro 16' (adsl2+ upto 16mbit) broadband only deal for £14.99/mo inc. vat. They are a reseller ISP, in my case they setup Be Unlimited's connection but their service and support is far, far better than say, Sky or Virgin.

It's not even a longterm contract. Just a 30-day contract. The only catch, as I see it, is the activation fee of £48 inc. vat and if you want your broadband ceased, it's £44.99 inc. vat.

I'm further away from the exchange than you are, i.e. 1km straight line but my phone line is thankfully pretty good.
