Which ISP (ADSL) for Ludgershall exchange

[link to this post]

I'm looking for suggestions for a solid reliable ISP that won't slow me down during evening and weekends, unlike the Virgin Media cable I am with now. Usage primarily for console gaming, Skype, and video streaming as well as normal web site visits. I have a BT phoneline (line rental and call charges go to Tesco home phone). I would prefer short contracts so that I can move to another ISP if it doesn't work out. After some looking around Zen, IDNET and Uno/Xilo seem to tick most boxes.

Information about my exchange as reported by SamKnows: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/STLGSHL
Site also reports my house approximately 398 metres away from exchange.

If you need more info please ask, I'll try to answer.

Any feedback and other suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.

My first choice would be uno "pro" since the exchange is TalkTalk LLU'd - about £15 per month for 100GB, unmetered after 8pm and weekends, no contact - but probably a £48 activation/migration fee which may be a lot if you wish to leave after a few months for what ever reason.

Check for availability on the their free phone sales number if you want, but I think they are very busy now with new orders so be patient smile

After checking on the uno/xilo site my line is eligible for the following packages. Apart from the upload rate and price differences, does anyone know what the difference is between the "Pro" and "Home / Office" products?

Home / Office Products

Product Download1 Upload1 Usage Cap Price2
Available SOHO 10GB 8Mb 448k 10GB £16.66
Available SOHO 50GB 8Mb 448k 50GB £20.41
Available SOHO 100GB 8Mb 448k 100GB £36.24
Available SOHO 200GB 8Mb 448k 200GB £44.16
Available SOHO 500GB 8Mb 448k 500GB £51.66
Available Office 10GB 8Mb 832k 10GB £21.66
Available Office 50GB 8Mb 832k 50GB £26.24
Available Office 100GB 8Mb 832k 100GB £41.66
Available Office 200GB 8Mb 832k 200GB £48.74
Available Office 500GB 8Mb 832k 500GB £56.66

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Pro

Product Download1 Upload1 Usage Cap Price2
Available Pro 10GB 8Mb 1Mb 10GB £11.66
Available Pro 50GB 8Mb 1Mb 50GB £12.49
Available Pro 100GB 8Mb 1Mb 100GB £12.91
Available Pro Advanced 10GB 8Mb 2.5Mb 10GB £22.91
Available Pro Advanced 50GB 8Mb 2.5Mb 50GB £24.16
Available Pro Advanced 100GB 8Mb 2.5Mb 100GB £24.99
Available Pro Advanced 200GB 8Mb 2.5Mb 200GB £30.41
Available Pro Advanced 500GB 8Mb 2.5Mb 500GB £40.41
Available Pro Unmetered 8Mb 1Mb Unmetered £17.49

1Speed stated is estimated based on information from BT and your postcode. The speed you receive will depend on several factors including line length and condition, radio and atmospheric interference and exchange contention. 2Price is per month, and excludes VAT at the standard rate. 3If you are migrating service from another service provider, a fee is payable depending on which product you migrate to; £11.00 for BT IPStream and £40.00 for LLU. Fee added at checkout. Product availability is based on your exchange and will vary between exchanges meaning not all products may be available. Lead time is given by our suppliers. Delays may occur beyond our control and we will advise, when possible, if this is likely to affect your order.

I think 100GB per month would be okay as a rough estimate as usage varies monthly.

"Office" has an uncapped upstream speed on G.DMT (ADSL MAX) - 21CN WBC is apparently not available at your exchange http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/STLGSHL

Okay, so the "Pro" product appears to be best for my line? I am looking at either the "Pro unmetered" product at £17.49 a month plus VAT, or the "Pro Advanced" 10GB with the 2.5Mb upload for £22.91 a month plus VAT.

Is the 2.5Mb upload speed worth the extra money and the sacrafice of "unmetered" billing?

I upload at a steady ~850Kbps (upstream sync 1022Kbps) with uno Pro 50GB (TTB partial LLU) without any problems - I guess only you can decide if a faster upload speed is required and whether or not you need unlimited usage smile
