BT £38.71 - Sky £16.40 No brainer?

[link to this post]

Hi I am currently with BT unlimited with evening and weekend calls - cost inc line £38.71

Current sky offer is unlimited broadband weekend calls and line for £16.40

Hardly use landline phone so no problem...

Are there any catches I haven't seen???

Given the line will just be repatched in the exchange will the speed be the same or similar?

If on ADSL2+ via BT, then Sky should be similar speeds, same usually but no guarantees can be given.

BT offer for new customers is £8/month plus voice http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isp/bt/package/1201.html

So see if they will give you that in return for a new 12 month contract, but then still not as cheap as the Sky deal http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isp/sky/package/1412.html

Wi-Fi - you lose BT Wi-Fi but gain access via The Cloud and M&S voucher is a good family present if you don't shop there yourself.

Thanks for the reply

Pretty much what I thought...

I am currently on a chat with sky but they will not reassure a similar speed... and if you cancel within the 30 day cooling off period they will just disconnect the line...
This would obviously be costly re connection to BT

What are your router stats currently?

It is those that control your speed, though the Sky DLM system may not be as kind or may be better than the BT Wholesale one.

Given your figures, can give a rough best or worst case scenario

Sky obviously has LLU at your exchange
Worth compare with Plusnet. Paying line upfront.
