Getting 5mb broadband from Sky..should be over 15mb at least

[link to this post]

Sorry to post a new thread i just dont know if bumping works around here so im going to post again
(old post)
http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/which_isp/4061535-f...

Anyway
It has been 10 days since my Sku unlimited got hooked up and Im having a bit of a problem....i was told on the phone that i would get around 14-16mb internet...and this is what samknows says

You are connected to the Upper Holloway telephone exchange.

ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL2+ services
According to BT Wholesale, houses at your postcode should be able to support

up to 2Mbps via ADSL
7.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max
17Mbps or greater via ADSL2+

Standard ADSL RAG results
You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512kbps ADSL
You can receive 256kbps ADSL
You are approximately 755 metres from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

BUT

im only getting 5.65 Mb/s (speedtest) and it has been this way for over 10 days (i understand there is a 10 day testing period where sky tests your line to give it a stable connection)...it has not changed at all over the past 10 days.....

what the hell is going on? i would not have signed up with sky if i was only going to get 5mb net......
not if im paying for 20mb

Help please

Post your router stats.

EDIT: Nothing at that link cuz for some reason you added "?fpart=7#Post4061535" to http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/which_isp/t/4067986... . Did you use [link to this post]?

You are getting top of range that Sky promised; quotes by ISPs are always of sync speeds.

Your low throughput is down to congestion at your exchange or beyond.

Stupid question but are you running the speedtest wireless or via cable it can make a big difference.

are you getting the same result from speedtest at 2am 6am 12pm 6pm and 8pm?

If you get much higher throughput in the small hours then theres a good chance its congestion at the exchange or beyond.

If you get very similiar results at all times your line speed is capped by sky for some reason. They will do this if your line needs stability, but maybe in your case the cap just needs clearing.

I would aggree with Rich check wireless speeds internally to see max throughput as you may be getting wicked interference from the neighbours wifi or other RF, also is your router upto it as I recently found my router cpu was running 100% most of the time and process were queing, we have 4 mobiles all running apps in background,3 laptops( running bit torrents I found out) and ipad, two smart tvs all running via wifi + xbox, ps3, sky anytime x2, printer, NAS and VOIP phone system poor old router was hot enough to fry eggs

Are you doing the test connected to the router using a cable, or via wifi? Are you running XP or win7?
