Downgrading to Windows XP

[link to this post]
I have been given an Advent 8315 laptop (recovered from flood damage) that had Windows Vista Home Premium preinstalled but my preference is for XP Pro which I have now installed. However, although everything else seems fine, graphics, sound etc. I need the Ethernet and WLAN drivers which don't seem that easy to find on the web. At present I can't even connect the laptop to the Internet via my wired connection so I am having to use my desktop computer to get this message out.

All I know about the system at the moment is that it comes with a Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset. I do know there were some models that came with Windows XP preinstalled so there must be available drivers ... can anyone direct me to them? I would be extremely grateful if you can.

It might be worth trying the Intel Driver Update Utility to see if it can detect which drivers you need.

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

I have tried that several times but no joy, they don't appear to have a the appropriate link for downloading. It is also difficult to discover the hardware on the system to match the drivers.

Many thanks David ... at least I can now wire up even if I can't link wirelessly. Having got this far you wouldn't by any chance know where I could seek out the WLAN for this machine? This would be even better because it would help me with mobility.

Whatever the outcome at least I can connect to the Internet now and many thanks for that.

You first need to have a network connection before you can use this. However, now that David has come up with the first solution by pointing me in the right direction for wired networking, I'll try your suggestion! Thanks
