Netmeter query

[link to this post]

I'm on O2 LLU so I (currently) have no worries about bandwidth usage but nevertheless I'm interested in seeing how much bandwidth I use on average.

I have 2 PC's connected to my Netgear router.

Does anyone know if I need to install a copy on each PC or whether it will monitor bandwidth usage on both PC's?

I expect I will have to install a copy on each PC - just checking smile

You will need to install a copy on each PC.

Your local network between your PCs, if any.

Another you can try is Networx from Softperfect which is freeware. Scroll down the right of the page for the download link. You have to install it on all the PCs you want to monitor. But the neat thing about is that you can allow the copies on each networked PC to talk to each other, thus the usage by all the PCs Networx is installed on is kept in sync as well as have it ignore internal network traffic. You can then check either total Internet usage for all the PCs connected or each machines individual usage from any connected PC. It also has a number of other useful monitoring and usage warning functions for those who need them.

Interesting, I'll take a look at that.

Thanks.

Well if you have two PCs connected to your router you do actually have a local network. Actually, being pedantic smile, technically you also have a local network even if only one PC is connected to the router. Because the router is itself a network device that your PC is communicating or networking with. Thus, while you may not actually be using the router for PC to PC networking, but only using it to allow both PCs to access the Internet, the facility for PC to PC local networking is already there. At most, you might have to enable any firewalls you have installed to allow communication between the two PCs.

BTW, if you install Networx on all PCs that connect to the Internet through your router so that the program automatically monitors the total Internet usage of all those PCs, you will need to 'tell' each copy of Networx to communicate (i.e. network) with every other copy of Networx on other PCs connected to the router. This keeps all copies of Networx in sync across all your PCs and so accurately monitors the Internet usage of all your PCs.
