iPlayer not deleting files from disk

[link to this post]

If you are using iPlayer and finding that your disk space is disappearing check the repository to make sure programs you have watched and deleted are not left behind.

The problem occurs if you delete the program immediately after you have watched it, it disappears from iPlayer desktop but the files are not deleted.

I found 3GB of 'deleted' programs and I've seen a report of someone who found 20GB.

In reply to a post by jelv:
check the repository
Where is that?

I doubt streaming iPlayer stores anything other than Temporary Internet Files.

Who said anything about streaming? It's ******* obvious I was talking about downloaded files as they are the ones that would be stored on the disk in the first place.

Open the iPlayer preferences, temporarily untick Allow BBC iPlayer Desktop to manage where programs are stored and it will show you the location of the repository.

You didn't specify!

Funnily enough websites are cached and in your case the streamed files may have been cached as well.

Now we know what your issue is we can try and help.

I'm not sure how you think you can help when loads of people are reporting the same problem on the BBC iPlayer forums and we're getting ZERO response from the BBC. frown

Edit: To really add to the fun the official advice from the BBC is to NOT use iPlayer on a Windows PC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbiplayer/F8035762?thread=7...

To alert people to where their disk space is disappearing to, they can then delete the programs from disk manually.

It seems that some people get very aggressive very quickly and do not take kindly to helpful or freindly responses.

Thanks! Yes, I was thinking that. Seems OP does not realise that not everybody knows everything that he knows smile
