Welp, M$ looks like they are trying to squeeze the last bit of profit out of W7, so Windows 8 will probably be released soon.

Very nice, but i sometime think what is the point as most of the time you don't see the desktop anyway

I have downloaded it, makes a change from my black desktop

windows 8 is Windows 7, just with the ribbon interface, which I detest on Office. oh yes and the tile front end.

I know I said it before that I would not change from windows XP to 7, but I doubt very much if I will change to Windows 8. Got no reason to to be honest

I've seen the betas floating about, but I haven't tried them yet. This is the one to skip though, if microsoft stick to their pattern.

Just windows 7 at the end of the day, it is not even in Beta, so how can you see Betas? There are a few external versions floating around and they still got windows 7 name on them.

No doubt it will be fine, but certainly not worth the cost of updating.

the thing that bothers me with these updates are that they want us to be online all the time and seems to want us to do everything online.

Google I can understand why, because their main business is chucking adverts at us and being online and grabbing information from us is the best way to do that, but I don't undertstand why Microsoft also wants us to stay online?

microsofts motive will be to (a) a subscription based model which is very rewarding, take WoW for example. (b) to combat piracy. Also possibly as a reaction to google, as things like gmail, google maps etc. take people away from offline equivelents.
