New Updates

[link to this post]

Most months my updates appear with the option to download and install. (I don't let my system do this automatically). Often there are a couple unticked in the list even though they are 'important'. This week it's the upgrades to Win 7 NET Framework 4 which are not ticked. Does this missing tick mean that I don't need to install these upgrades? Why no tick if they're 'important'.

You can tick them if you want, but they won't be installed.

There's another .net 4 update (KB2439636) that is ticked, & has to be installed first & then, after the reboot, you can install the 2 unticked .net 4 files.

The only possibility that occurs to me is that these updates require other updates to complete before they can be installed. I know that sometimes, after applying some updates and rebooting, the computer tells me that there are still updates to be installed.

On my Vista 32 laptop and W7 nettop these installed fine along with everything else. Curiously on my Vista 64 desktop I had to be logged in as Admin to get these to install (I prefer to have UAC turned on for my user account).

MadMan, do you mean KB2539636 (not 2439636)? If so, yes it's there and ticked ready to install. Thanks for pointing that out.

On the install history, it shows it as KB.

BUT it may not show it as KB prior to install.
