And a warning:
I couldn't log back into my Win7x64 Home Premium Acer laptop after applying these updates last night. It stuck at 'Welcome'. I could only get in using safe mode. Tried creating a new profile and it didn't help. Luckily System Restore fixed it.

My laptop now joins my server in having Windows Updates disabled. At least I was able to get the laptop back - the server has to be restored from backup when this happens. Sad to say but I'm now joining the ranks of people who say that Windows Update can be more trouble than it's worth.

I generally run it quarterly, and only a week or two after a monthly release, so that bugs are ironed out.

Scottish Labour politician: “The SNP are on a very dangerous tack. What they are doing is trying to build up a situation in Scotland where the services are manifestly better than south of the border in a number of areas.”

Interviewer: ”Is that a bad thing?”

Scottish Labour politician: “No, but they are doing it deliberately.”

I have set it to tell me when updates are available and then wait at least a week before doing anything. I was caught out a couple of years ago by a McAfee auto update that screwed my system. So any more news on this set of updates? There's nothing on the other forums, so maybe the penultimate poster had some malware that distorted the process; it has been known!

Just noticed that an update is messing with the kernel mode drivers - this can majorly mess up big time; or am I just paranoid?

It sounds like either a file is corrupt or the registry is - I've had no problems (and this update does modify the registry when you restart).

I'm guessing it was a driver update that hit me. The fact that a new profile wasn't any better suggests that. However Avast! did an update today and was acting odd. It started off telling me I wasn't completely protected and wouldn't let me enable real time shields.

MS don't release updates on a whim that are likely to cause problems. Just because McAfee are incompetent doesn't mean MS are. I have no hesitation running Windows updates immediately nor do I have any problems!!
