Email & Windows 8

[link to this post]

Can anyone suggest an alternative to Thunderbird or Outlook that will work with Windows 8?

I have tried to download free versions of both of these but without success.

Does the built in mail not do something that you want? If so, then what other features do you need as that might help with suggestions (and I am surprised thunderbird and outlook didn't work - what were the problems?)

I don't like the inbuilt mail feature, it's not user friendly compared to Outlook.

Both Outlook & Thunderbird didn't download when I clicked the "download" links. I tried more that one website for the downloads.

That can't be the fault of the PC or Win8.

TB can be got from here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/
Outlook is not free so I can't d/l it for that reason grin.

Windows 8 native mail application does not support POP, but apart from that there should be no problems.

I installed Windows Live Mail (which is 99% look and feel Outlook compatible and free) and it runs without problem.

NO -

The NATIVE email supplied with Windows 8 only supports IMAP or EAS.

Accessing POP3 requires the use of a.n. other mail client, such as Gmail, Hotmail, the new Outlook.com, Windows Live etc..

Using an additional mail client does not constitute "native" support.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/pop-ema...

"The Mail app, which often comes with Windows 8 and Windows RT, doesn't support adding email accounts that use POP (Post Office Protocol). " - Microsoft
