Are some of these updates just for win 7 with SP1 installed?
I have an old laptop with just win 7 (no sp1 but fully patched otherwise ) and only a couple of window OS updates showed up. My other system with SP1 showed 8 or 9 OS updates for download.
And in case you're wondering the old laptop always errors out when trying to install SP1.

hi petsy
all updates are necessary for the security of your computer and will be offered to you via your internal windows update
you will be offered sp1 if you do not have it some people choose not to install the service packs but personally i think you should

the vast majority of worldwide fraud takes place because of the failure to update computers in a timely manor and java and flash along with the .net framework all need attention on a monthly basis if to remain secure for banking purposes etc

All updates that i post worldwide are essential for good housekeeping and if any errors are found should be reported back to the thread so that i can get those responsible to get them fixed

finally all updates should be installed as and when posted you should not allow updates to back up for months on end as along with other updates like flash etc when you do eventually boot your computer their will be a high chance of failure of some if not all of the updates and in some circumstances not being able to boot at all as you will have run out of memory mainly because you've allowed to many programmes to start at boot albeit unintentionally
