Unable to upgrade to 8.1!

I have error 0xc1900101-0x40017 trying to upgrade to 8.1 Pro X64 via Windows store. Unable to find a solution.

Tried uninstalling AMD graphics driver (in case of a conflict), disabled Norton anti virus & firewall & disconnected external drives. Same result.

Luckily MIcrosoft restores your original version (complete as pre upgrade), but I'm a lose what to try. Any ideas??

Hmm. Check Windows event log, might have some more detailed information there.

Any USB dongles, wireless adapters, etc, attached to your system?

If it was me, what I'd probably do...

Uninstall Norton AV
Ensure 40GB free disk space
Run a CHKDSK /X
Run an sfc /scannow
Download and install all Windows Updates
Update all apps in the store (apart from the 8.1 one)
Restart the computer
Try again?

If you wait a couple of days I'm sure there will be more information come out about that specific error code which might point you in a better direction.

Just to add to that, if you have an NVidia GPU make sure you have the latest driver.

This is one reason why I am not going to bother to update to 8.1 unless I need to re install windows, but while the windows 8 part of my computer is working, I will leave as it is.
i remember updating from one windows to another it was not fun.

Thanks for the ideas. I could try uninstalling Norton, but I did have it switched off. As the install takes an hour, I 'll wait a day or so & see if there are any other solutions.

Anyone else have this issue (not found much on the internet yet)

*Solved* - it was the Steel Series mouse/keyboard software that was the issue, once uninstalled Windows 8.1 update worked!
