Important information about your email service Outlook.com

[link to this post]

Just received email from Microsoft informing me "In the next few weeks we’ll be making some updates that will impact your @outlook.com, @hotmail, @live or @msn email account. Those changes will prevent your email from getting delivered to the Outlook desktop application that you use. When you notice that you stop receiving messages, simply follow these two steps:"
Remove your email account from your Outlook 2010 desktop application
Re-add your email account to your Outlook 2010 desktop application

Hope this is a genuine message from Microsoft! Anyone else received this email?
Is it genuine and how can I check it is?

Unless your machine has already been compromised, deleting and adding an email account in an unaltered email client, with the existing address and password, cannot cause a problem.

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

Thanks TinyMongomery.
In an other forum a member posted that he had also received the same email for all his Outlook.com accounts and that he had contacted Microsoft to confirm it is a genuine email. He "Had a chat online, its a valid email , due to outlook.com migration to outlook preview, it only effects legacy apps - hence why outlook 2013 & 16 are not mentioned as they should be OK

WLM will also be affected , as far as i could understand , All Legacy Applications will be affected
But Win Mail app 10 will be OK"

What if you use outlook.com as your mail client rather than a desktop client?

I do prefer to have all the features of outlook desktop in one place, which by using outlook.com they wouldn't be. I shall have to wait for microsoft to migrate outlook.com to outlook preview and then evaluate and decide.
