Today Microsoft released the following Security Bulletin(s).

Windows 7 updates taking even longer now. From checking to finish installing took 8 hours!

Same on my two Windows 10 boxes. For me it stopped downloading about 50%.

There must be something wrong somewhere.

The update only took 8 minutes from start to finish on my PC.

MS do release updates for Windows Update which apparently help, but seeing as the sneeky beeps bundle the Win 10 installer with alot of updates now in reluctant to install them

I just leave it overnight now. Normaly update checks are quick its just patch Tuesday that is a nightmare

I dunno why patch Tuesday is different. I get there are more updates than a mormal day but it goes from 1 min max to check rest of the month, to 2+hrs on patch Tuesday

I updated as soon as the MS email hit my inbox around 6pm, maybe alot of people doing the same, it was the cumulative update that took ages to download.

Didnt update until 8.30 myself. Was stuck on checking for updates for hours, the downloading updates at 0% for hours too before eventually completing
