Did IE8 Stop Working on XP Recently?

[link to this post]

I have a coupla of little used XP PCs which I use occasionally for old s/ware or old-style I/O ports. IE8 has stopped working properly on many sites. It comes back with "Can't load page" or suchlike. I'm sure it was working fully a few months ago. It's OK on Google but I expect that uses low-maintenance HTML.

Of course I've switched entirely to anonther browser, FF, but I'm just curious as to the reason it has stopped working.

Just rebooted into XP quickly and IE8 brought up TBB main page and the forums no problem. Tried re-installing IE8?

IE8 Advanced Settings only mentions HTTP 1.1, so prob not.

Yes, TBB main site & Forums are OK. More low-grade HTML wink? Admittedly I did not try many sites, just the ones I use regularly. Can you try these:?

It's beginning to look like not how long has IE8 has stopped working but how long have sites adopted HTML5 widespread?

In reply to a post by XRaySpeX:

I suspect IE8 is tripping up over newer SSL/TLS certificates. All three of your URLS are HTTPS, or redirect to HTTPS, and the certificates were issued within the last couple of months.

Do you have any examples of sites which don't load which aren't HTTPS?

Still looking for HTTP that don't work but on the way found these HTTPS that do work:

You'll still find plenty of HTTPS sites which work because the protocols/standards which are supported differ between certificates, but over time the deprecated protocols will be dropped from the newer certificates that are issued.

Given up trying to find an HTTP that doesn't work. Couldn't find any. Many of mine end up redirecting to an HTTPS anyway which doesn't work.

If these newer certs were introduced only in the last 2 months generally, it fits in with my expeience of IE8 only failing since I last used it successfully just a few months ago. That must be the explanation.

1 of my XPs had the FF ESR for XP on it, the other didn't. The current FF does not install on XP; not since FF 52. I could not find an old version downloadable online.

So I copied the FF Program Files from 1 PC to the other that didn't have it. I was prepared to copy App Data & Registry entries as well but that didn't prove necessary. It worked 1st time, importing stuff from IE8.

http protocol version bears no relation to html5 wink

anyway I think ie8 does not support html5, at least not in its current form.
