Scheduling File Backups (NOT to an image)

[link to this post]

Hi gents,

I've just bought a networkable hard drive for my parents so they can back up their various files and photos, currently stored between a couple of desktop systems they use.

I've been through the standard Windows backup utility which, despite doing what it says on the tin, only seems to back up to an image file. As such, they can only access these backups by 'restoring' this image which isn't really ideal - I'm just trying to sort out a simple clone of files/folders which updates periodically, to keep it as simple as possible should they need to access them in future. This is also so that they can use the Web Access feature to access these files from elsewhere.

Does anyone know of a simple way to achieve this? Presumably some third party application might be the way forward - just something simple with a schedule feature would be great.

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Spot on - must've been the only one I hadn't tried.

Much obliged, thanks.

Have a look at Genie Timeline. It's like Time Maschine on OS X, but for Windows.

Taking a look at both of them. Both look interesting. Vista Backup is completely useless.
