anyone know of a company who has or have plans to implement wireless internet services in the Lincoln area?

fed up with my shoddy bt line cutting my line speed by 70% and cable only goes to the street 300 yards down the road!

Have you checked your details on the Sam Knows broadband checker (www.samknows.com)?

A quick search brings up a Wireless provider called OnLincolnshire (www.onlincolnshire.net) though I can't see where to try and order a service from.

vFast Ltd
Downstream ~10 mbps (megabits per second) - ~1250 KBps (kilobytes per second)
Upstream ~2 mbps (megabits per second) - ~250 KBps (kilobytes per second)
Sky MID
Downstream Att. ~62db - SNR ~5.5db - Sync - ~2784 Kbps
Upstream Att. ~31db - SNR ~16db - Sync - ~576 Kbps

Unfortunately, OnLincolnshire is a system operated by the County Council for business use only.

Unfortunately I do not know what qualifies as a "business" to them so that maybe something worth looking into in more detail.

Set the wayback machine to 2003, when both Lincoln and Peterborough (mentioned in another thread) were in the target area for a company called WRBB, whose service was called Sunshine. There's plenty of pre-launch PR stuff in various places on the Internerd, but I can't easily find any record of their fate. From memory they never actually launched their service.

http://search.theregister.co.uk/?q=wrbb

Sorry, that doesn't really help.

Assuming you've done everything poss to sort your bt line, do you know anybody in the nearby street who would be prepared to get broadband on your behalf and let you use it via WiFi?

Well their web site (http://www.wrbb.net/) does not go anywhere useful, so that probably somes up their fate smile

I too remember them in the early days of us wisps. In my mind, they came under the group of "we are wonderful, we will take over the world, oops... run out of money!"

As you say, can't remember them ever starting to offer a real service.

There is a new company called LINPOP based in Lincolnshire running from the Ingham mast that is providing high speed - proper broadband that does what it says on the tin.
With up to 10M symetrical uncontested business services, and starting from domestic levels, they would be a good place to start. www.linpop.co.uk or ring 01427 667 102
