Superfast Swindon Trials

[link to this post]

I received this mail yesterday. It may come in handy for people that want faster broadband. Why not give it a go. Its free for a month.

Superfast Swindon Trials
Dear Mitch,

During the past few months we’ve been busy building the infrastructure to ensure delivery of the superfast broadband to over 19,500 residents and businesses in the Borough of Swindon by this summer.

We are pleased to let you know that a one-month free trial of the superfast broadband service will start from May in areas with the below postcodes and we would like to invite you as one of our Superfast Swindon Subscribers to take the advantage of this trial.

As a trialist you will be the first to benefit from:
• Free fast broadband service for a one month.
• 24Mbps download speed as a minimum.
• Great online experience while streaming, gaming, online shopping, video conferencing, homeworking and whatever else you’re up to.
The trial will be offered to trialists for a minimum period of one month to assist us in gaining customer feedback in order to optimise the network and understand your experience of the installation and customer support.

We would also like to get in touch to see if you would be happy to become a Superfast Swindon case study for our marketing purposes.
We’ve outlined more details on the trial for your information below.

If you would like to take part in the trial please contact us at wholesale@ukbnetworks.com

We look forward to welcoming you as our Superfast Swindon trialist,
Your Superfast Swindon team

Who can take part in the trial?
Only residents and businesses in areas within the areas listed below, who own their property. The property must not be a listed building in order for us to install an outdoor Sky dish-like antenna on the outer wall of a home or office without obtaining planning permission or landlord’s consent.

How can I get access to the trial?
Simply email wholesale@ukbnetworks.com with your name, address and contact telephone number and you will receive confirmation if you have been accepted for the trial.

How long will the installation take?
Usually installations take up to two hours to complete. Details of the technical solution, outdoor unit and connection process are available here. You will be offered a morning or afternoon installation slot.

What restrictions are there on the trial service?
The trial service is designed to optimise the network and no guarantees are given on connectivity speed, although we expect trialists to receive 24Mbps. During the trial there may be short outages which will be communicated to trialists in advance.

The initial trial service will not offer a fixed IP address, however this option will be available to residents once they sign an agreement with a reseller at the end of the trial.

How long will the trial last?
You will be able to take an advantage of the trial for around one month and we will give you two weeks’ notice prior to the trial end date. We reserve the right to extend the trial for longer if beneficial.

What happens at the end of the trial?
At the end of the trial you will have two choices. If you are happy with the service, you will be able to select your preferred package from a number of resellers. Full details of Swindon resellers and their superfast broadband options will be emailed to you two weeks prior to the trial end and here. Trialists’ contact details will also be shared with all resellers so please make sure you email us, if you don’t wish your details to be shared.

If you are not satisfied with the service during the trial, you can arrange for the installed equipment to be removed. There will be no charge for the removal of the equipment providing it is undamaged at the time of collection.

If I am unable to join the trial when can I get service?
If residents wish to join the trial and it is fully subscribed they will be advised by email of when the service is available. Details of when the service is available will be included on superfastswindon.com

What if I am not in the initial trial area?
Superfast Swindon will be coming to you soon; we’ll be rolling out to the rural areas throughout the summer. Details of when the service will be available will also be included on superfastswindon.com

Where is the trial available?
• West Swindon and surrounding areas
• Chiseldon and surrounding areas
• Highworth and surrounding areas

Promising 24 Mbps as a minimum given the current atmosphere of up to speeds is a very dangerous game to play, since someone is bound to get speeds under 24 Mbps and throw their toys out of the pram very loudly, and then if anyone sees the 'buffer free' loud and proud message too.

Look forward to seeing the speed tests that should start to appear soon using the mini dish rather than the old system and to see what difference it makes.

Fixed wireless can be great, but am well versed in the game of this being the case for some providers, and not for others in the same technology arena.

I would also like to see what the new dish can do also. Maybe the upload will increase.
I was thinking of signing up for it myself, but as i already have version 1 of it (Which has been Extremely Stable) i don't really want someone drilling additional holes in my walls to install the antenna.

I would personally encourage anyone to sign up for this it if they cannot get cable or fttp/c and have slow adsl. I have had it since October 2013. I have had one fault in that time and it was the router. Once replace, its been fine again.

Save money on the install and get it free on the trial.

@Mitchy_mitch do you have speed test results you could post a link to please? I am not far from you but currently outside the coverage for UKBN which is annoying.

I get between 30-50 Mbps. Normally 40.

Today's probably the worst it's been in a while.

The router hasn't had a reboot in ages.
I've had this service for 2.5 years now and I wasn't in the trial area. But Cotswold wireless came round to survey and managed to get a signal.

It's worth a go.

<rant>

there is a surprise. Speedtest.net has the ISP listed. Think Broadband do not.

It took us 8 years of repeated requests to get our IP ranges added to this site and that was only because they had to when they started doing the measurements for the ISPA awards.

It is a shame as the damage it caused to the fixed wireless industry in general cannot readily be undone.

The Fixed line bias has been somewhat strong sadly.

This isn't a reply to you bill. I'm just adding to the thread.
The prices have been announced.

Personally I think they have come up with some reasonable deals.

Nice rant shame it was wasted.

I do my best to make sure as many providers are listed as possible, but to say that I've caused damage to the wireless industry is taking things a bit too far don't you think. Given oldest test I have easily to hand for Kijoma is from March 2013 http://tbb.st/136352745112885646196 perhaps time to move on and concentrate on other things rather than old moans and groans.

Bill only knows how to moan, I mean he even moans that people get annoyed when they don't get a response from his business offering to pay his high prices for outdated download limits.
