slow speeds, sometimes slowest speeds

[link to this post]

I have FTTC and I was lucky to get 76mb down and 18mb up for the last few months
until last night
now it is 13.6mb and 0.22mb if I am lucky, sometimes drops to 1.94mb down

I tried to run the test at http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and run the diagnostic test but after putting the settings in, I am unable to get Internet access at all to complete the test. If I put my zen details in, the router reconnects to the internet.

am at a loss here as to why

What does the "View Line Data" option in the customer portal show? This screen shows the sync speed of your line, so you can distinguish a loss of sync speed from other issues.

quick update
I have been in contact with tec service and they done the tests all the way back to my router and there is no fault being shown on my line.
router and Bt router both restarted and still exactly the same
my speeds will not get above 13mb and that is even using the test socket bypassing the filter and using a standard adsl filter
Jason, tried everything and even checked to see if my line had any shaping on it and there is nothing.
upload speed is still 0.23mb and takes seconds to send an email

Jason arranged for an engineer to attend and to be honest, I was expecting next week, so imagine my surprise when the sms came through telling me tomorrow between 1 and 6
Thanks Jason

You shouldn't have access to the internet when you use the BT_TEST usernames.
When you use your ISP username you get an IP from that ISP.
Performance tests completed for things like download/upload are between the two points - you/your router and your ISP.
When you use BT test usernames you only authenticate as far as BT.

The idea of this test is pretty much so BT can prove the speed issue or latency isn't on their bit of the network.

So yes you get an internet light and 172. address but that won't give access to google etc...

Hope that explains things.. You can still get back to speedtest.btwholesale to finish off the tests and submit the results to the server!
