Billion modem/router

[link to this post]

Hi , just signed up for fttc and got the router from Zen, Fritzbox 3490 so thought I'd try it on adsl while I'm waiting for fttc to be connected . like surfing through treacle !
Anyway after setting up, the line attn. went up from 18 to 22 , plus snr from 6 to 12 , so back on with my trusty Billion 7800 DXL and speeds etc back to normal .
so now i'm looking for another Billion with a built in fttc modem , anyone any recommendations ?
there was a big difference in sync speed between the Fritz and the Billion , the fritzbox was about a third less than the Billion

Billion 8800NL V1 not R2 not as good or ZyXEL VMG-1312-B10A as modems. If you are looking for a router with AC Wifi then the ZyXEL VMG-8924. All of them should be available on Ebay.

If you want the very best Billion all-in-one router, then go for the Billion 8900AX. It uses the the latest Broadcom adsl/vdsl2 chipset and has brilliant wifi coverage (4 stream Mu-Mimo). If wifi coverage is important, I would stay away from Zyxel routers as they're nothing special, even their 802.11ac models.

Excellent choice smile Its the equivalent of the 7800N for FTTC connections. I'm sure you remember the 7800N was legendary in its heyday.

But just be aware the 8900AX is dual-band modem/router, not a triple band. AFAIK the only triple band ( 1 x 2.4ghz & 2 x 5ghz) all in one modem router is the Netgear D8500 which costs an eye watering £355.

I have the Billion 8800AXL R2, can't fault it! It's the best Billion router I've tried (out of the Billion 8800NL R1, R2 and the Billion 8800AXL R1).

I have a Billion 8800NL. Am I right in thinking that my ADSL2+ connection is a very easy (engineer-free) change to FTTC?

BT VDSL face plate btw.

Is that this one (notwithstanding the colour!)?

I currently have a BiPAC 7800N on FTTC, when I migrated from ADSL to FTTC the engineer installed a BT Openreach modem. Am I right in thinking that if I replaced my 7800N with an 8900AX-2400 that I could connect it directly to the BB socket and dispense with the Openreach modem?

Yes its that one on broadbandbuyer, though slightly cheaper on Amazon at £249.99. The 8900AX is an all-in-one unit (modem + router) so you can get rid of the Openreach modem.
