Re: Return of the Dreaded Slow Single Thread Download Test

[re: mixt] [link to this post]

On BT backhaul with Zen.. Since Sunday download speed has dropped by 5 to 10% at all times.
BUT my single thread speed has NEVER been above 27.5mbs on a 80/20 connection. The multi thread connection is always good and steady at all times giving me just over 75mbs until last Sunday that is. Upload is over 18mbs at all times.
Regarding the single thread download issue Zen have told me that there is nothing they can do about that and gave me the impression that they couldn't make a complaint to BTW about it and making me feel that I should be lucky to have what I have and forget about single thread as it is not used these days!

If you watch live streamed video then single thread style downloads are very much used

I'm really surprised that Zen don't want to look into this for you. However single thread speeds don't form part of the contract with BTW / OR and therefore single thread speed issues don't constitute a broadband fault with an SLA for it to be addressed.

Just to point out to people on this thread Stanley exchange is not Zen back haul most likely TTB or BTW.

Thanks all for the replies.

I am on Zen GEA FTTC. In my Zen portal, I had a Zen Fibre GEA Migration Fulfilled on 08/03/2017 and my current line technology is GEA FTTC. The nearest Zen PoP to me I think will be Edinburgh.

Still the same tonight so will drop Ajays a PM and see what comes of it.

When I was with Zen last time I had this issue, they did something that fixed it and it was fine thereafter.

I've just moved back to Zen, having a slight issue, but not terrible. Might give them a shout and see if they can do the same again.

What's the issue? Your single thread speed only being within 5Mbps of the multithread speed?

Some of us use that as measure of success.

It could be better, indeed it was previously with Plusnet and before them Zen.

I have had the issue before myself,.
When it first reared it head earlier last year, contacted support and it was resolved. Had other odd speedtests with low single thread speed but it would only last a couple of days and it would return to normal, so never reported it.

Just signed up to the Big Deal Fibre in October, so are in contract till October 2019. Not that I am thinking about leaving as I think Zen will sort it again.

Sent a PM to Ajays so will see what comes of it.

Yeah I had it with Zen when I was with them a year or so back, but they fixed it fairly quickly, Once I'd PM'ed jongreen84 on here.

I forget what they did exactly, moved me to another VLAN or something maybe...

Then I left them, and now I'm back, and i'm back to the old problem....

My Broadband Speed Test

I'm going to PM the ZEN guys in this thread. and get this sorted again.

Logged the issue with Zen support on the 18th, got a reply the following day.

"Thank you for contacting Zen Technical Support. We have identified an issue with the platform that your broadband connection is on within the exchange. There is an upgrade scheduled for this platform however this will take a considerable number of months before work is carried out therefore I have placed a request to migrate your broadband services onto another platform in the exchange.

This order will take up to 10 working days to fulfilled and you may have downtime of up to 10 minutes on the day the migration takes places."

See you in 10 days then.
