Some Simple Questions

[link to this post]

1) Are PlusNet any good?
2) Any throttling of speeds etc?
3) Customer Services any good?
4) Any major problems with billing?
5) What is your major gripe/moan re PlusNet?

Would appreciate Nadger's thoughts.

Thanks in anticipation.

1. Yes they are pretty good, occational petty probs but nothing serious.
2. Loads of traffic shaping depending on plan, so you will have to do some research, but free between midnight and 6 or 8am on my plan.
3. Customer service very good
4. Some post on here suggest one or twp probs, but I've had none
5. Don't think there are any major probs, just a few niggles

Others may feel different so let more people reply and take a sample.

Dave.

Hi there,

Clearly the majority of your questions are those that I shouldn't be answering, but with regards to the traffic management, or quality of service being applied, you can see exactly what you would expect to see speed wise on this page here.

Alternatively, there's our Broadband Your Way Pro product, which offers you 10GB per month peak usage (8am to midnight) where the traffic management is designed to ensure that you have the best possible speeds on our network at all times.

Let me know if you have any specific service related queries that I can assist with.

1) Are PlusNet any good?

Yes, been with them twice now and the first time they were really good until the traffic shaping got taken too extremes and felt like they were constantly tweaking the system.
I have been back for just under two months now and the service appears to do exactly what they sell it as (BBYW Pro) and I get good speeds peak time on all services and can download as much as I like off peak. As I only have a 2.5M profile I cannot say for certain that this is also the case on higher speed lines.

2) Any throttling of speeds etc?

Yes, they have defined limits depending on what package you take and what time of day it is. James has posted a link on this thread where you can find detail of this. With BBYW Pro you can expect full speed on most things although there is a chance that some services could still end up limited if the PN network was fully loaded with high priority traffic (there are some Gold drops that do occur).

3) Customer Services any good?

Always found the service on here to be first class although some responses to tickets has been poor, although again since coming back I have not seen any problem in this area but others have complained about information posted to tickets. James etc. always give a first class service.

In reply to:

4) Any major problems with billing?

Never had any issues and when I raised a problem on rejoining it was sorted very quickly and to my satisfaction.

5) What is your major gripe/moan re PlusNet?

Email has had many issue over the past while but this is something I have moved away from (ISP supplied email) so does not impact me.
More than happy with the featuers that I do use.

1) Are PlusNet any good?
Yes as long as you steer clear of their own EMail and are not an very heavy user. Very good gaming performance at any time of the day.

2) Any throttling of speeds etc?
Yes it is clearly shown on the website.

3) Customer Services any good?
Very Helpfull and when you phone them up they know what you mean. That is rather than blindly following scripts and then trying to fob you off.

4) Any major problems with billing?
None in over a year now.

5) What is your major gripe/moan re PlusNet?
None it is very good for my use which is web browsing , gaming, VPN access and the occasional large download. I would just keep clear of their EMail system.

I do the same as you with downloading. I meant during peak times rather than Off Peak.
