DNS change time

[link to this post]

HI All,

If you have a domain registered via Plusnet and use their online configuration tool to change the ip the web hosting points to does anyone know how long it takes for the changes to go live on Plusnet's name servers? Is it just the same allow up to 48 hours that needs to be allowed for other name servers?

Also does anyone know if this time should be the same for email server changes too (MX records).

Cheers

Stu

The change to the PN DNS servers usually occurs within 4 hours but it can take up to 48 hours for this change to propagate throughout the internet due to many DNS servers caching results.

So if you use PNs DNS servers you may see the change quicker than others using other DNS servers.

Thanks for that, it went through on Plusnets servers in around 6 hours and I appreciate it'll take up to 48 hours to fully propogate.

Cheers
