1600+ emails in inbox!

[link to this post]

Hi

My wife is a subscriber to a Yahoo group and uses Outlook to view these mails. Today she opened outlook to be hit with 1600+ nondelivereable emails.

I am currently in the process of scanning the laptop for problems.

Could someone please check my account for any problems?

Account name is conorandlucy.

TIA,

Conor

Being a member of a Yahoo group myself, I would suggest double checking that the senders details in the outgoing mails are still the same as those registered with the group.

just spoke to Simon at CS and he said the "catch all" was turned on on my account. It has now been turned off and hopefully the problem has been resolved!

Strange thing is that this hasn't been an issue until today!

Will wait and see what happens.

I'd guess she has posted to a group and one of the recipients of the post has got a problem on thir PC (a bot or suchlike). A spammer is therefore using your wife's email address as the from address to send out thousands of emails. This will probably last 2 or 3 days and then they will move on to someone else's address.

Were you using a unique email address for Yahoo groups? There is always a risk of your email being harvested so it's best to create a special alias just for Yahoo then when this happens change to a new one and set up a redirect to blackhole for the old one.
