Plusnet to Be?

[link to this post]

I'm a happy PN customer though I thought about leaving during the troubles - I just made sure my domains and email are done elsewhere. I'm still on the old Premier account though I suppose I ought to go to BBYW3.

I've just looked at Be.

In reply to:

"Unlimited", whatever that means this year

It means exactly what it says. I'm not a heavy user though (I've only used around 80GB or so in the last 30 days). If you post your line stats in the Be* section someone could give an estimate of what you could expect.
Some areas are suffering a bit of congestion ATM but Be* are actually in the process of doing something about it.

Is Be in your exchange as the higher speeds are only available on Be's LLU connection? If not moving to Be will be no different to your current set-up as you will still be on BT's IPStream network, not Be's, with the same speed offering as PN does.

Be* is LLU only ie. you can only get Be* if they have unbundled your exchange. I don't think that they provide IPStream at all.

Thanks for the advice.

I put my number into the Be checker and they said I could get the service. My exchange is 020 8343 if that helps.

My usage is well below 80GB/month, in fact it rarely goes above 10GB/month. I'm unlkely to be bothered by anyone's definition of "unlimited" at the moment but if I start doing more internet TV etc then that could change. I do sometimes FTP some fairly hefty amounts of data. The odd 1GB download isn't too bad at 8Mb/s but Be would make a big difference for even a modest upload.

Does Be do any significant traffic shaping? I've not had a problem with PN but then I don't do any siginificant amount of P2P and I don't use Usenet.

They don't do any P2P "management" at all. The only port that is blocked is 25 to prevent email spamming (even this is unblocked if you have a static ip which is a free option on the unlimited package).

I'm thinking of doing exactly the same thing.

To keep your referal just reduce your account down to a pay as you go account and you'll jsut get the referal money each money (or two months if you don't earn a lot) with no monthly payments to make. Easy
