Hi again
Following on from my previous questions with regard to joining PlusNet, I thought I would ask this on a new thread as my other one seems to have gone off on a tangent lol.
I am happy with the packages for my purposes, they will suit me fine, but if my son should give up his Virgin cable connection, he wants to share mine, so the question is:
My son would like to know how the Pro package would work for his XBox gaming. He is a serious gamer and likes to 'host' games as well. As explained in the other thread, he has major problems with his Virgin cable connection and we are possibly looking to share the connection, so need to take both needs into consideration - and I need to get this sorted quickly now because the sooner I leave Pipex aka Tiscali the better.
He is very familiar with speeds, pings etc, so if someone could help to clarify how his gaming would be, I would really appreciate it, cos Im trying to persuade him that PlusNet can provide what he needs LOL.
Thanks in advance.
Linda

Says it all really, all gaming traffic in the gold queue, ensuring the faster possible speed across the PN Network at all times.

My son is the game expert however.
The little bit i know is that the person with the biggest bandwidth usually hosts the game.
And more important someone who knows more will be here shortly.

Thanks for replying - yes, I read that and have printed it off for him to read. Its the reality that I need confirmation of at the moment.
Hope some XBox gamers give their experience of it so that I can just get on and sort this out lol.
Thanks again.

Thanks Barry - yes, he understands all that, this is why I need to know more facts. I have printed everything off for him to read, but I desperately need users to confirm that this connection will suit his needs as well. Fingers crossed.

He can always try it on the 30 money back guarantee.

Yeah, again thanks for that, its worth considering that option, but as the connection may possibly be for both of us, I dont really want to keep changing ISP - I do tend to stay a long time once I have changed, and if he cancels his Virgin cable, its down to my adsl connection, so if it doesnt suit, the only other one being considered for the gaming side of it is BE, but thats not the choice for my purposes, its purely for his gaming side of the connection. Hence, I really want the Pro package to be suitable.
What I do, hinges so heavily on him cancelling his cable, which has been atrocious - their customer services and so called technical support at 25p a minute is beyond a joke and he has been battling with them for 4 months now trying to get it sorted out and he is almost at the end of his tether over it and feels the only option is to cancel.
So, although the 30 day money back is great, I dont want to leave once I have joined, its just hassle I dont want lol.

Ok LInda you will get a proper reply maybe not tonight but i would have thought as soon as the Plusnet staff see your post.
For what its worth my son is going to use his X box on the Pro package that i am getting for him.
My needs and usage are in second place, i only pay for the broadband.
I personally have not heard or read any bad stories relating to gaming on plusnet, and i do not think they would offer a product, that was below a gamers expectation.

Yep, well it works fine for me
Most XBox Live games use the same ports so we already have detection in place for this to ensure we can give this traffic the highest priority over the network.
We also have an Xbox 360 connection guide on the portal here

The above post has been made by an ISP REPRESENTATIVE (although not necessarily the ISP being discussed in the post).

Hi Linda,
I fully appreciate that changing ISP can be a bit of a hassle, even though it's a lot easier now than it used to be!
The Pro package will put all of your son's gaming traffic in what we call "Titanium" which will offer the faster speeds that our network will allow, meainig that your son can always get good gaming speeds unless there is a problem outside of our control (gaming servers being poor and things like that).
There's also the 90 day money back guarantee for any peace of mind that you may like to take advantage of. Also, you'll be able to contact Techical Support and customer Services on a 01142 number which, depending on your call plan, may end up being free.
Like Chris, I've never had any issues with Gaming over XBOX Live, audio quality has always been good and I've not ever seen any ping issues.
Sadly, I'm still rubbish at most things involving computer gaming.
