I assume, from your post, that you are switching? If so, I'm curious why switch from BT to Plusnet, which is another BT company, albeit still bearing a separate brand name?
I don't see how it's possible to confirm whether Plusnet will give you the same speeds, as there are so many possible variables. You say nothing at all about your line statistics, distance from the exchange, or even which Plusnet package you are choosing.

Ok i am going from BT to Plusnet
In doing so get a better deal for broadband and pay a lower price my line rental and calls are cheaper
I get uk based support should i need it.
I am not tied to a long contract and Plusnet must deliver to keep me
And the parent company is unlikely to go bust.
Also i believe BT are prevented from offering the lowest price ( i am sure some body knows more ) but i think it is the monopolys commission that stop them from being the lowest price because they own the lines and equipment.

Hmmm, I was just curious.
Generally speaking, if I was unhappy with a provider, I wouldn't move to another one owned by the same people, but each to their own, I suppose.

I will have better access to support and it will be UK based, thats the major reason.

Are they sync speeds from your router or the results of a speed test?
It's unlikely that your sync speed will change as this is governed by the quality and length of your phone line and, as such, is something outwith your ISPs control.
If it's throughput - it will depend on how congested PN's network is compared to BT's as well as being dependent upon any contention at your exchange. PN have just added more capacity to their network, and have been regularly adding capcity over the past couple of months, to keep ahead of demand so I'd guess that you will probably get the same or better speed with PN.

It was the fact that I will be using 'wireless' that the question was asked.
|
|

For general use you shouldn't notice any difference if you're using wireless as opposed to a wired connection.
It can knock a bit off your speed but generally not enough to be noticible.
However, your original question asked if PN could match BT - didn't mention wireless :-)
If you're changing to using a wireless router the effect would be the same regardless of ISP - possibly a slight reduction in throughput but nothing too critical.

Cheers.
My omission of 'wireless' was a senior moment.

Having just joined PlusNet, I can confirm that support is unbeatable! The team is top notch!

I think this makes the point well. I am happy to be a PN customer
partly because it IS a BT subsidiary!

No problem!
Which speedtest did you use?
|
|
|
|
I used NDO,BT and this site.

For what it's worth, this is what I was getting this morning using http://speedtester.bt.com/
IP profile for your line is - 5000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5888 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4526 kbps
I get identical figures on my wired connection and my wireless connection upstairs.
Could not test last night, but usually during peak times this figure drops quite a bit. Don't know what it's like around 11pm though.
Hope this helps!
