Anyone Using BBYW Pro?

[link to this post]

this package http://www.plus.net/residential/broadband/bbyw_pro.shtml

Anyone using this? just migrated to Plus (Waiting for it to come through) from horrible horrible Pipex. Anyone any idea of how this service is ? is the traffic prioritising really any good?

Cheers.

You won't notice the traffic management on BBYW pro at all. I used it for a few months before Christmas and performance is very good. Everything you would expect to work, just works.

The only problem I had with BBYW Pro was trying to stay in the 10GB usage allowance. I really struggled with this. I share my connection with 2 other people in the house and average usage comes in at around 10-15GB.

You don't need to seriously worry about the 10GB allowance unless like me you use external FTP fairly often as after you hit your usage cap this is blocked along with Usenet and P2P.

Gaming and general use all work fine though, even after use your up your allowance, just at the slow speed of 128Kbps until the end of the billing month or you buy more allowance.

A tip is if you can, leave a computer on overnight and schedule Windows Updates, Games Demo, or whatever to download between midnight and 8am as you get free usage then

I switched just after christmas. Can't fault it. If you can schedule the bulk of the big downloads between 12-8am, then its not too difficult to manage 10gb peak limit.

...or you could tick the box here (login required) and opt to add extra usage on a PAYG basis so that you don't get restricted.

You could also (on the same page) increase your monthly allowance in advance if you wanted.

It applies 7 days a week. i.e. weekends are no different to weekdays - free overnight, paid for during the day.

You have to consider that our "peak" times are when our network is busy.

The network is still busy at the weekends because everyone is at home, hence why we cannot offer free off peak over that time.

Ah well I pay 25/month for Pipex so at that rate it gives me an extra 6Gb/month roughly.

16Gb peak useage is probably more than I will need free off-peak midnight-8am should suffice - if the speed is up to it

thanks for the answers gents

bit late to reply but want to add here as well
i moved in november and love it, no slowdown any time of day and like other posters said if you manage your downloading its not too hard to stay in 10g, ive even found myself with a few gig to spare at end of month so used it up with demo's etc
(i like to see how close i can get to 10g without going over)
pings are reguarly around 30 to 50 mark for gaming and very few disconnections, very highly recommended and a positive feedback rating from me

JUst moved this morning am now a PlusNet member. Wooooooooooooooo!!!

bye bye crappy Pipex network. This seems alot quicker even just plain browsing! I'll give it a few days before I make comment on speed as I'm sure the same settling in periods apply...

Thanks for all the comments/feedback gents!

Yeah dude sync speed is normal 8Mb stuff... 8248 and 488up or something from memory

I guess it's just the settling in period as I mentioned - yes?

Hi there,

BT haven't assigned a line rate to your, er, line since you moved across.

As others have said, this should be done in the next couple of days, at which point it should revert to the same one you had on Pipex, ie: an IP Profile of 7150Kbps.

Good to have you here
