21CN due next month - FTTC next year

According to Samknows my local exchange has a RFS of July 2011 for 21CN WBC status and FTTC has slipped from the end of this year to March 2012 - basically a slip of 3 months since the original date was announced 3 months ago - so no closer.

I have heard of the legendary benefits of FTTC (should we get it here - should I live long enough to enjoy it). However will 21CN give any noticeable improvement in broadband speed.

depends, what speed are you getting now? Are you able to get the router status as from that we can make an estimated guess

Tonight I got 5.74 MBPS down and .34 up - this is a bit slower than usual daytime speeds.

I predict around a 3mpbs boost.

That sounds good - a 50% aprox increase in speed.

How soon does it get switched on after the RFS date - do I have to request any thing or does it just happen.

Will I need a new Router - I have a Vigor 2500V

I would raise a ticket to get put onto ADSL2+ just to make sure sometimes it takes weeks or even months to get switched automatically

and i can't say about the router to be honest but from what i've read it was released in 2005 so i'm going to say no

Apart from the Plusnet supplied device what other recommended makes and models are available.

Plusnet supply a new router with there FTTC service (which is also free) i think its a netgear DGNR2000

The router they would send you for ADSL2+ would not work i'm afraid

Well if you are going to get a new router that would work with ADSL2+ & FTTC i would recommend the Billion Bipac 7800N its a great piece of equipment for the price.
