My sync speed is 11.7MB and I usually get a suitable data throughput speed for this.
But since yesterday evening my data speed is only around 2MB. I've tried disconnecting and then reconnecting to Plusnet (not rebooted the router yet). The Plusnet service page shows no problems.
Does anybody else have the same problem, or know of an issue that is not showing on the service page?

I've just rebooted my router, which no change to the slow data speeds.

Hi Steve,
If you could PM me a username or ticket ID I'll take a look at your account and see if there's anything obvious there, but it sounds like it could also be a fault - is it the same speed with the router in the master socket and all phones disconnected, and have you noticed the connection dropping at all? If so it'd be worth raising at http://faults.plus.net. More than happy to look over the account though and make sure there's nothing obvious from our side.

Please run a BT Speed test and post the results as far as the end of the upstream speed.
It is likely for some (noise) reason you had a disconnection and it came back slow. That affects your IP Profile, which determines your throughput speed.
The BT speed test tells us your current connection speed and IP Profile, as well as the throughputs.

Before I rebooted the router it had been connected for over 11 days. The connection has been stable.
After going through the whole fault process a few months ago (finally tracked to a problem at the exchange) I'd rather not start that process yet.
I'll PM you the account details and if you could take a quick look at the account I would appreciate that.

Yes, it shows 2.5 Mb.
I have no idea why it is so low, but it matches what I am seeing.
My usual speed is at 10Mb or so, matching the exchange sync speed of around 11.7 MB.
I still synced at a high speed, just the data is slow.

Profile must have dropped (BT speed test will confirm what it is currently) and Plusnet profile dropped to match. It's possible the Plusnet copy might need a "nudge" from support once the BT profile recovers.

what would have caused the profile to drop?

Hi there,
Your BT profile adjusted to 2500 following a recorded sync of 2848 at 22/06/2011 05:03:27.
That's still in effect I'm afraid, though by resyncing the router once a day (ideally round lunchtime) you should nudge things along a bit quicker - though please make sure you disconnect the broadband first so it's not picked up as a disconnection.
Hope that helps,

Odd. How long will it take to correct?
The thing is, I did a BT speed test a short while ago and it showed the following:
IP Profile for your line is - 12028 Kbps
How often does Plusnet update its information from BT? Could you do a manual update?

About every 12 hours
However I have seen several cases where the various BT systems don't report the same value which can screw things up rather badly. It only applies to 21CN as far as I know
|
|
|
My exchange is 21CN. Maybe rebooting the router this morning updated one part of BT and it needs to propagate through the system
Thank you to all that have been helping.

Hi there,
I've changed things on our side as there is a mismatch across BTs side (actuate/wcr is reporting 2500 but as your speed test is reporting over 12000 it seems it's a bit behind), things should catch up in 15 to 30 minutes or so. Please let us know if not though and I'll try and give things another kick.
ETA: Clarifying that actuate/wcr is behind rather than the speed test result you've received.

Don't confuse router up time with WAN up time . Easily (and often) done even when you know to watch out for it.
I'm glad it is now sorted .

Thanks, I shall bear that it mind next time.
Also the usefulness of the BT speedtest as it tells you what your profile is.
Thanks

Thanks However, note that although the Plusnet copy of the IP Profile is supposed to update automatically, the system can fail. So if the BT IP Profile is correct for the sync, but throughput is low, check the Plusnet copy, (Current line speed), as they use that to control your connection. Which is what orbrey fixed.
