Will dropped connections be affecting my UP speed?

I still have abysmal "up" speeds, and my internet connection is just barely usable, despite download speeds apparently being normal.

I've just had an update to my ticket, saying that the poor speed (which must mean upload speed, as the rest is normal) is due to the recent disconnects, and should resolve itself within 72 hours.

Is this right? I've heard of (and experienced) drops downgrading my sync speed, but never my upload speed.

I don't believe what I'm being told, and feel as if I'm getting nowhere. Problems began on Monday afternoon, and my connection has never been right since (despite a switch to a brand new PN supplied router).

I'm still getting random disconnects - at least three in 24 hours (it used to go for weeks without dropping), it's taking 3 or 4 seconds just to navigate to a page, and streaming video is impossible.

Sort of prompted me to sort it out myself.

But obviously running wired is not a permanent solution I want to resort to. Do you think my new PN router needs to go back?

Have you tried changing the wireless channel?

If this doesn't help and assuming everything is fine via ethernet, I'd say faulty router.

If you see my updates below, it looks as if it was indeed a faulty wireless connection, and nothing to do with Plusnet's explanation!

The router is a brand new PN-supplied one, straight out of the box, so I'm not sure if I've got a dud, or if the wireless adapter on the lappy's on the blink.

If so, do you know anyone who would let you try your lappy on their connection, or loan you a router?

Alternatively, McDonalds or Costa etc. - try the wireless there.

No, I haven't thrown the old one away - luckily!

Just losing the will to live.

It's ironic that the only reason I switched was to forestall the familiar PN argument of: "It's your router". But it seems to have introduced a new problem.

Bear in mind that it annoys everyone, so you're not alone.

Everything's been fine for ages. When it works fine, it's invisible.

Now everything's gone wrong at once. Not just with my broadband, but unrelated stuff I use for work as well.

There's been a big system outage, and all the passwords stopped working.

It's restored now, but they said if it still didn't work to use the self service website to reset it. Lucky me, mine still didn't work...

But the self service security question is about my driving licence No. Guess what? I'm a non-driver!

Presumably I must have populated it on set-up with something that seemed logical at the time, but what? Tried my phone number, but that wasn't it.

Been in a queue 20 minutes to speak to a real person, and now have to wait at least one hour for the reset to take effect...

It must be sunspots or something. Absolutely nothing's working properly.

I'm scared to switch on the washing machine, in case that goes wrong as well.
