Why is your upload speed so bad?

I have't a clue. It has always been the same whoever my ISP, so best ask Plusnet.

Hi there,

I've initiated an SNR reset on the line as the last profile update we had was to 9000 based on a sync rate of 10608. Given your current sync rate it should retrain to at least 12000.

I hope that helps,

Thanks Matthew, competence at last, though I would bet the snr has not been nailed to 3db as requested.

Just that you're obivously on ADSL2+ but that upload looks like an 'old' ADSL upload result from a 448Kbps line. Might just be co-incidence and your line can't support faster upload.

I seem to remember that Plusnet default ADSL2+ to 448kbps upload, but happily raise it if requested by ticket.

Are you serious!? That's ridiculous.

It's just that my Dad is with Plusnet and i've recently advised them about a rogue 15dB noise margin on his good quality line.

He was still on ADSL'1' even though exhange was upgraded to ADSL2+ during his time with them, and they've only now after this ticket admitted there's "an issue with the provisioning of the line", so are regrading it. I remember asking them before if he could be upgraded to 21CN WBC as soon as it was available and they flat refused.

Anyway at least it's being sorted now but looks like i've got to raise a further ticket about upload speed. What a ball ache.

I think you are quite right correct, that's the upload since I was on 8Mb ADSL. I realise that despite everyone knocking BT, especially on price, but every other cheaper ISP has to cut corners. PN seem to cat more than most. Slow upload, restricted usage and only 20Mb of the 24Mb that ADSL2+ is capable of, though some of the problem is that they are controlled by BT/Openreach, and I haven't got much sense from them or their system lately

Surely resetting my snr couldn't make things worse ... Could it?
Well the last couple of hours have been fun. http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/2907/capturezso.jpg
Not to worry, back on the strangled 8Mb now.

Forced a re-sync. Now hooking up at 16664kbps with aline profile of 14658kbps, but still only getting 7622kbps down. I will see if things improve, but was under the impression that things should change almost immediately, so don't hold out much hope

On 21CN the ISP can indeed set the upload to 448Kbps (i agree, it's a tad silly). It just requires a quick modify and it can be changed to uncapped.

Because he hasn't asked for it to be uncapped!

PN found that on some lines uncapping the upload reduced the download throughput a little. As most people are more concerned by the download speed they default to give the best possible on that.
