I had my line upgraded to ADSL2+ this week and as you can see from my signature below, got a pretty decent increase from my previous 6Mbps.
The upload speed used to be 800Kbps but has now dropped to 400Kbps. Is there any way to get this increased?

Raise a ticket asking Plusnet to increase your upload speed.

Thanks for the reply Wagstaff.
Is this free then? Also, I'm still in the 10-day training period as I just got upgraded to ADSL2+ so would increasing the upload speed during this time have a detrimental inpact on my sync speed?

If you previously had an upload speed or 800kbps were you paying extra for Max Premium and, if so, has that charge been removed
On ADSL2+ uncapped upload speed is normally automatic on lines like yours but in this case, if the upgrade was done manually, it didn't happen.
There is no charge for this and it shouldn't affect your line given your high dowload speed

Hi Jim
Just opened a tickey (No: 51457214 incase any Plusnet Reps's are bored!!) asking to get the upload speed uncapped.
I didn't used to pay for the 800k upload on ordinary ADSL as it was something that was added temporarily during troubleshooting of my line 2 years ago and was never removed again

The applied increase won't cost you a thing.
Plusnet will tell you that uncapping your upload will have a detrimental effect on your download speed, but ignore that - I certainly haven't noticed a difference.

The actual wording - if I remember correctly - is may affect download speeds. But as I said in my previous post given the download speed achieved it is unlikely. It is definitely possible on lines with a higher attenuation
|
|
|
Thanks for the info guys - ticket opened so fingers crossed it won't affect my 10-day training period (or what's left of it!!).
Seem to be constantly sync'd at 15,026ish now so should be fine.

My current attenuation is 29.5 (actually down slightly from ADSL at 31) so should this be ok?

The training period is largely irrelevant in your case. The DLM control of the line starts at Minute 1 and runs for ever. All the 10-day period does is set the MSR and FTR, and these days even breaching the FTR later doesn't always get a satisfactory reponse. (Not criticising Plusnet there, talking about BT Wholesale "their suppliers" ).

Plusnet's reply:
I can confirm that you are still in the 10 day training period, your upgrade to the ADLS2+ service completed on the 25th January.
We can uncap your upload speed, but I will have to make you aware that this can impact your download speeds. I would advise to wait for the end of the 10 day training period before making the decision to go forward with uncapping the upload speed as it will impact the main download speed.
Suppose I'd best wait til after the 10-day training period then??

Probably wise to do so.
But it would be useful if Plusnet could explain why it is necessary, in these circumstances, to endure a "10-day training period".

What's going on? Even though I havent replied to their message, they've placed the uncap order anyway:
Dear Mr James,
Thank you for your patience regarding this matter. I can confirm I have now placed an order to uncap your upload speed on the line, this may have a slight effect on your download speed as we move allocation on your line for the two.
Due for completion: 30/01/2012

Looks like a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.
Be interesting to see what happens on the 30th.

Apologies, that was my bad - I placed the order intending to respond but then an issue popped up requiring a service status post which distracted me.
It should complete tomorrow though, I'll look at why the 30th was stated and feed back.

So does that mean this uncapping won't affect my 10-day training period then Matt? Jade seemed to think it would in the ticket reply and advised not to do it during this time!

It shouldn't do, no - though as DLM is an ongoing process anyway it shouldn't matter whether it is affected or not. It might make a difference to the line profile (hopefully a positive one) but it shouldn't make any difference to the training period itself.

Interesting. I get 6.5 Meg, with 30.0dB attenuation, so can I expect 12 Meg at least? Lovely!

Not necessarily so, Cam. The best I've been able to achieve is 11.7 Meg with a line attentuation of 22.0dB.

The best I've been able to achieve is 11.7 Meg with a line attentuation of 22.0dB.
That's poor. I synch at 1136 up / 17569 down, on attenuation as reported by my router (HomeHub 3) of 24dB. Mind you, my noise margin is currently at 2.1dB downstream, but the connection hangs on for grim death - synch has been up for over 40 days

My Billion router tells me that my downstream data rate is 16386 kbps, but the actual speed is nowhere near that.
The SNRM downstream fluctuates - just checked it now at 4.1 dB, but earlier it was 5.9 dB. It has been as low as zero.

LOL - probably the only upgrade we'll have for many years to come so gotta make the most of it! I still believe the Openreach Engineers that yours will be done later in the year
P.s my wife's parents in Cosh have had painfully slow Internet for about a week now - perhaps related to your prob yesterday? There's has been as low as 25Kbps!
