TG582N router will not wifi to Android phone

I got a new router last week on the basis that new is better! My daughter was visiting and promptly keyed in the wifi code for her iPhone. It worked.

I keyed it into my HTC Wildfire with no joy. I did this several times including "show password" so I know it ws correct! In a flash of inspiration I scanned the QR code (several times) and connected. Alas it regularly drops te connection. It now wants the wifi key again and just will not take it.

Anyone else had this problem or do I go back to my v8 (flashed v7) router?

I just do nor believe it!

Have you got the same encrytion mode set?

What version of Android you using? Mine works fine with ICS (Android 4). No need to set encryption as the OS takes care of that for you.

Android 2.2. It worked fine with the previous router and encryption check is auto.

What channel is the router using for wireless?

Try changing the channel to channel 1 and see if it will connect?

It is already on Ch 1 !

Setting encrytion to WEP seems to make the Key acceptable by typing it in.

Trying with WPA the phone sees the router but the router does not see the phone according to this new fangled WPS setup process. I should add that WPA worked fine with this phone and the older router.

Scanning the QR code does not seem to do a lot either!

Try setting the Channel to Auto. That's what I set mine to and have had no probs whatsoever. Also, my wife's phone is Android 2.2 and she also connects to ours no probs at all.

So are you actually using WPS to set up the connection?

I have never bothered with this and just key the password into the device when connecting and it "just works"!

I have Android 4.0.4, my daughter has 3.x.x (can't remember the exact version and my wife has the GingerDX flavour of Cyanoganmod - all connect to at least three routers without problems.

Is the router set for both WPA and WPA2 support? The older Thomson's did this.

Try choosing WPA2 only and that should help.

Thanks all for advice. Have tried everything and the router and phone just don't like each other. It gets as far as authenticating and then says "wrong password". The password is as the card and the card is as inside the router setup.

Will probably go back to old router as no point in sending this back at current postage rates as it was a free upgrade in the first place.....
