Can any Plusnet users confirm that filestube.com has been blocked in the UK?? I have been unable to access the site for the past week via my Plusnet connection ...
|
|
|
Post a traceroute to it from your connection. It could have ended up in the IWF list...

Hiya thanks for your suggestion unfortunately not too technical on the hardware side of things but this confirms that filestube is on the IWF list:

Strange are you using a proxy or something to access the net??
Having said that I tried a couple of the filesharing sites that appear on the list (see post above) and they work fine ... strange.

Plusnet have had some funnies with routing and the IWF proxies recently with some sites being reachable from some gateways and not from others.
Have you tried a disconnect/reconnect to see if that makes a difference?

Works OK for me on my Free-Online (part of PlusNet group) account.

Well, that was an interesting link! I'm all infavour of the work done to protect the victims of abuse but surely depositfiles, for example does have perfectly legitimate content and certainly content not covered by the IWF criteria.

I have checked www.filestube.com for you and it doesn't seem to load here.

...... but this confirms that filestube is on the IWF list......
That list is inaccurate in many cases, including I believe, the entry for FilesTube.

Gateway ptn-ag02 - no access
Reconnect to gateway pcl-ag07 and I can access the site.

Correct. Some sites are routed through the IWF filter because they share an IP with a site that is blocked, but they are not actually blocked themselves.

See http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,1053...
Disconnect/reconnect (may take more than one attempt) should find you a gateway that works.

IWF list should not block complete sites, but rather the URL of offending material. Hence why the list is not published.
The way most providers handle the list is a quick, re-route for the domain, with the deeper URL checking happening on the proxy.
This can result in a site appearing to be blocked if it is a popular site and taxes the performance of the proxy.

And sometimes the remote site blocks the proxy's public IP due to a high volume of requests originating from the same IP.
This is especially true for file sharing sites that limit the number of "free" accesses to encourage users to pay for subscriptions.
