Heard mutterings about this a while back, and now it's here. They've just refreshed their options, out goes the Extra package and in comes (what appears to be) a truly unlimited package, among other changes:

Great!

Hmm wish I had your confidence. My exchange already has fibre in it for the Secondary School I work in but I was talking to an Opebreach Engineer who was doing work in our POP room yesterday who has heard nothing about Fibre for us

I used to be with virgin media fibre optic (but it false and not true fibre at all) and virgin speed on 100 Meg was throttling my speed down from 100 Meg to horrible 35 Meg for 10 hours before revert back to 100 Meg after midnight, so I had quit virgin media because they are really expensive (kept increase price), bad, liar and high ping, couldn't load sites and high congestion in my area and virgin never bother to fix it.
I just glad and happy with plusnet over the year now, very reliable service and low ping, and never had any problem. Now, I just signed up unlimited is a bonus to me but I just pray and hope to get Plusnet Fibre Unlimited soon in 2013 and will never go back to Virgin Media ever again..

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Max.
Have you reminded Openbreach how important it is that they give you FTTH?

Don't want FTTH to be honest. I will be more than happy to have FTTC up to 76 Meg download and up to 19 Meg upload for £19.99 a month Unlimited with plusnet when FTTC come to my area in 2013 (Finger cross)

But what if you are too far from the cabinet or the line isn't good enough and you only get 72Mbps down?

Ok fine, I didn't know.... Like thousands of other Andrew. As I pointed out to him. Also you were correct to post - anything before today was forecast, not actual, even though the details we had were likely to be right.
One in a thousand of his posts are of some interest, but he is the longest-serving nutter on these forums . As Uilebheist says, take no notice. Someone would have started this thread today even if you hadn't done.

my line are good enough as I got 15.7 Meg as BT estimated is 11.5 Meg. My house is not far from the bottom main street road (this is where BT Openreach will always put cabinet there)

Yes, he appears to have been here slightly longer than me, although I managed to post 10 times as much nonsense over the years.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's sent so many letters up the chimney to Santa asking for the same things multiple times that there's a major litter problem where he lives, possibly even a traffic hazard!

You almost certainly can get the same fibre product as the school has. However, the school are most likely using a business product - these are available pretty much everywhere and provide a dedicated bandwidth line. But, the costs are way above what most people are willing to pay for home use. Of course, you could have done this 10 years or more ago if you had the money - you don't need to wait for the FTTC/FTTH products if you have enough cash.
|
|
|
Yeah I think I'll wait until Openreach enable my exchange (assuming they do at some point!!). Don't think the wife would agree to the extra expenditure even if I could afford it lol
|
|
|
|
Indeed, for a laugh I got a quote to get fibre to my house... worked out at about £700/month plus £3000 installation costs for 10Mbps symmetrical. Didn't even date reading the prices for higher bandwidth.
I'll be patient and wait for FTTC
