Got There In The End! (Nearly a Day Without Service Though)

Evening,

So i'm back online after a full Sky to Plusnet migration.

As expected Sky promptly disconnected my phone line/broadband at midnight last night.
It took Openreach/PlusNet until 2pm to re-patch the frame and activate the phone service.

ADSL was syncing from about 4pm, although PlusNet said they couldn't activate it till I called back at 10pm.

I guess not an ideal scenario, but i'm just glad to get off Sky.

Sync/Pings are generally better - 4480kbps/448kbps - 35ms to UK2

I can have my upload de-restricted so I can have the equivalent 800kbps I had with Sky, although i've been warned of detrimental effects to my downstream sync rate? Can anyone provide some steer?

Detrimental effects on the upstream are a myth that infected Plusnet some time ago, and hasn't been fully eradicated. Go for it .

Do you think you can find and post your connection speeds, (I think the PN router calls it bandwidth), attenuations and noise margins? They will show us if it might be worth trying ADSL2 instead of ADSL2+ at the end of the pestilential 10 days.

I assumed this maybe the case, i'll put a request in tomorrow.

Figures below as requested. I did have a play with ADSL2/2+ switching years ago and I did have an improvement. I must say my sync speeds are higher than they used to be when I was last on BT WBC.

Sync: 444 / 4,744
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.3 / 56.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 14.6 / 5.8

That's an incredibly high sync! I should leave well alone if it continues.

There's also the possibility the DLM will lower the target noise margin to 3dB if it finds it is stable after a few weeks.

I thought the same, the highest sync i've seen is 5020kbps years ago for a short period of time.

Past experiences tell me the line won't be that stable and will disconnect at least once every 24-48 hours. I'm expecting the SNR to settle at 6dB.

All in all, 4-5mb on a 5km line run can't be bad!

That is fair enough Jim, but in all my years on these forums I can't recall more than a couple. All other ISPs I know of uncap it by default.

Hmm so not as comforting as first thought!

My request has gone through now, so we'll see what happens.
