Which router for unlimited fibre package?

[link to this post]

We just signed up to plusnet and were wondering, which router model do they supply for the unlimited fibre package?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, although that surprises me.

The technicolor website lists the 582n as an entry level ADSL2+ gateway?

Don't know about the 'Unlimited' (up to 80Mb), but on 'Essentials' (up to 40Mb) it's a Netgear WNR1000v3.

Does a pretty good job.

Thanks for the replies, I suppose it must have a firmware upgrade, will have to wait and see how it performs wink

@Tezwood, are you using the plusnet supplied TG582n or one of your own?

Correct. LAN port 4 is changed to a WAN port.

The general performance is OK, but the wireless is poor.

I use one of these. It's suited me fine, on IDNet FTTC 40/10, and Plusnet 40/2 and 80/20.

The Netgear an earlier poster mentioned was supplied with the 40/2 - that was poor wireless as well. When I moved to the 80/20 they sent a 582n.

I now have mine plus two spares tongue.

Was that sent to you as a new customer, or did you just change package to Essentials from Value?

The Netgear is not listed as a currently supplied router, but is in the "Older Hardware archive".

Thanks Robertos, helpful as usual! I was intending to keep using the GF's parent's old HH2.0 as a WAP, but one of those AirStations might be an idea as a backup wink

Yes at the moment, I will probably upgrade to something better later this year.

Ah right, it was just the fact that you said " mine was " that had me wondering.

No problems with it?

Thanks Matt!

Everything seems to be ok thus far. The discounts have apparently been applied, so will hopefully see something regarding those shortly.

The only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is the referral that didn't go through, but I've opened a ticket as instructed and it's not something urgent, so I'll wait and see how that goes.

I replaced the Technicolour with a Netgear WNDR3700, much improved performance and gigabit LAN ports too.

I never bothered with the Technicolour and opted instead for the TP-Link TL-WR841N. Not a bad bit of kit for £20 but, it's not great in neighbourhoods where everyone has a wifi router. Even though I set it to the clearest channel, it's had issues with wifi - the 3 internet radios I have here have been buffering since. So, on the basis that my place of work has one also, I've just ordered the DrayTek Vigor 2850n - from one extreme to another, this should be rock solid.. I hope!

Yeah thanks guys, I'm using a HH3 I inherited and looking around for an all in one modem router solution.

A Huawei HG622 or a Dare DB120-B2+ would do until BT move over to self installs for FTTC, and we have more choice.
