Just migrated from O2 via IDnet, Must admit very impressed with IDnet as a whole.
Lets hope Plusnet live up to the levels of IDnet
using my 7800n as the tg582n was [censored] on O2 so no doubt any different with plusnet
sync at 16200 @23 Att 6.0db profile
so after 10 days or so I ask for a lower snr profile
good news is that I am on fastpath already

If you have the HG612 modem it is easy to unlock. That's how you get the stats.
If you have the ECI modem that can be hacked but nothing like as easily.

I have an ECI /r and I have been checking lately how to hack it but is something I can't do.
I did also check about the HG612 unlock and is an easy thing to do. I have been looking on ebay recently to buy a cheap one.

Out of interest, why did you leave IDNet ?
I'm still weighing-up the various FTTC ISPs... I thought IDNet did fibre too, no ?

I guess that your reply was for RobertoS and not me

or perhaps the person who started the thread?
how rude some members can be !
I left because of price in all honesty, £25.80 for adsl2+ is quite expensive let alone the 100gb cap, I am use to paying £90 a year with O2.

Huh.. who's being rude to whom ?
I was asking a genuine question. I'd assumed you had gone for Plusnet fibre... which is why I was asking why you'd left IDNet.. who also have fibre.
Maybe I misunderstood.

Maybe I misunderstood. I think we should forget the "rudeness" bit, it's arisen from several confusions .
The thing is you earlier replied to xtermy, not to the post/poster you were putting the question to. Look at the post headers for the links.
xtermy pointed out to you you didn't mean to reply to him, and Stanman replied to xtermy. You were out of the loop after you made the mistake . It's a mistake we all make when fairly new to these forums.
All posts have a reply button on these forums, so you can reply directly to the post you are on about, not just add a post at the end. You probably aren't used to it.
I expect my name came into it because I also left IDNet FTTC to come to Plusnet.

Apologies. I had no intention of going off topic. I simply asked a question.
Somehow (I and I still don't understand how or why), I seem to have offended.
I think somebody misunderstood somewhere. To the best of my own logic, it wasn't me.
As I say, sorry for whatever I did wrong.

It was the fact you asked xtermy why he left IDNet, when as far as we know he was never with them, then got all uppity about your superior experience of forums compared to the rest of us when that caused a bit of a stir.
Finally, censor avoidance came into it. So the post got zapped!

I guess this must be your own personal forum judging by your attitude. It used to be so friendly.
I was actually replying to the OP, not xtermy.

At least I can read and understand what you say.
Was my explanation of the links in the headers so difficult? Seeing as I was perfectly friendly about it when I explained, and you got so upset at the OP and others that you started talking about rudeness and then resorted to bad language?
I thought explaining to you what went wrong would be taken as friendly. If you want to take it as a bad attitude, there isn't much I can do about that.
Sorry.

That's where all the confusion kicked off. This was explained to you in a friendly helpful fashion, but you seem to have taken unwarranted umbrage .
EDIT: Also to add to the confusion, your intended Q of the OP was about migrating Fibre, whereas it is obvious that OP is on ADSL only.

Correct. That is where I made my initial mistake. For which I apologise.
I really shouldn't bother replying as I do appreciate that we are all collectively being rude to the original poster. If you want to start another thread, I will gladly slog it out there.
However, for the sake of record.
What I actually took "umbrage" to was the patronising comment "All posts have a reply button on these forums, so you can reply directly to the post you are on about, not just add a post at the end. You probably aren't used to it."
Which is why I replied in the same manner. (And like it or not, I probably have been on forums for a lot longer than most. And the bulletin boards before that, and uunet etc before that...... And I was very instigative in the original rollout of xDSL BB to the UK) None of which I would have needed to mention if above comment hadn't been unnecessarily made.
Indeed it was the same comment that encouraged me to reply in a subsequent post that RobertoS had a bad attitude.
The sad thing is, I could have potentially brought some alternative knowledge to these forums, just like in the good old days of "adslguide".
Whilst I'm sure this post will probably be deleted by the Mod' because I'm potentially upsetting your little gang, I hope you'll leave it long enough that my reply is at least temporarily visible.
It is for me to acknowledge whether my naivety has let me down.

Post are never deleted solely for differences of opinion; only for breaking of site rules, like swearing. And I, personally, have no power to delete posts.

Remind me again. What swear word did I use? No really, I've forgotten.
I suspect however that I would have included wildcards "*" so as not to offend any delicate eyes.

Posting to the wrong poster can be confusing, many newbies (and to this forum you are) make that mistake so it was not an unreasonable assumption to make when providing info on the correct method. Members were trying to help.

Interesting that in the hoo-hah I'd completely lost the fact you were on ADSL2+ until XRaySpeX pointed it out.
Re a question in your opening post - "so after 10 days or so I ask for a lower snr profile". Nope.
The 10 days is a period when the BT Wholesale system merely notes your lowest connection speed and sets that as the Maximum Stable Rate. From that it calculates the Fault Threshold Rate, either 70% or 80% of the MSR.
The value doesn't really matter any more. The FTR used to be the figure above which you would have a heck of a job getting a sync speed problem reported by your ISP to BT Wholesale, as the reply from BTW would be that it was still within range.
Now it seems to be ignored and if you have a connection that works at all then you can have a fight on your hands getting it looked into properly. It probably started soon after Openreach started charging over £100 for "No fault found", even when there evidently is one - just they couldn't find it.
The SNRM is determined by the DLM and runs from the first connection forever. As far as I know you can't ask for it to be set to 3dB like you could on O2, but some time last year the DLM was modified, and given a sufficiently stable line it drops it to 3dB automatically after a several days. Whether it won't do that until after the first 10 days I don't know - that would seem logical.
