MIGRATED TO FIBRE 2 DAYS AGO

[link to this post]

Migrated from O2 to fibre. Quite pleased at speed it was done, 2 weeks.

Couple of glitches.

One was you have to set up the router yourself and after 2 hrs I rang the help desk to find the internet hadn't been activated. Help were quick to sort it, almost instant.

Second the engineer said he had been told to set it at 40/2 when I ordered 80/20 and was told to expect 69MB. He said it was a wiring connection at the cabinet that set the speed.

Testing on here shows 36/2. The help desk put a query on my profile - it seems to be CSC who you talk to and they put queries onto Plusnet. I'm waiting for an answer as to when it will be fixed.

At the moment I'm quite pleased but want what I expected as soon as possible.

Regards
Pete on O2

The engineers don't set the speed. Openreach sets the profile as requested by the service provider.

Hi Pete,
I trod exactly the same path as you in January this year.

The 40/2 order seems to be an issue with their ordering system - I'm guessing you ordered on-line?

After contacting PlusNet, my connection went to the expected 80/20 within a couple of days.

I'm now getting in the region of 73/20 - just a little better than the OR estimate.

So, don't worry, it will all be good very soon.

Ah maybe, I thought it was an outsourced job to CSC the IT company when it probably means Customer Service Centre.

Hi

It sounds as if I'm in the same boat as you. Connected up on Tues, service activated next day. Since then I've been getting some wildly different download speeds ranging from 2meg through to 35meg. But uploads speeds have been consistently low, 1meg or just under for every test. I ordered online too.

I may just contacted PN to query this.

You probably have the same thing, but you also have something else. The download speeds should not be varying like that - the other thing is just a 40/2 provision by mistake.

Are you testing wired or wireless? Are you sure when you test the speed only you are using the connection? If wired, and only you using it, then you need to get onto Plusnet about both issues, and hope they don't get confused.

If it's wireless then try wired and just you smile.

After spending hours trying to fix my connection I rang them and it was fixed right away, it was at their end. I'd suggest you do.

If they haven't answered my query this morning I'll give them a ring. They seem responsive.

That's great, glad you are getting it sorted.

Did PN tell you what the issue was? I've been in touch with them and had to hardwire my Mac directly to the modem. Ran the BT speed test and got 35mb download which is about right, but only 1mb upload which has been the consistently low value I have been getting since my fibre service went live. I should be getting up to about 10mb.

PN seem to have classified the issue as end user, i.e. problem is at my end e.g. wiring. So I'm curious as to what your issue was diagnosed at?

Hi dwr, No it just says the below along with some stuff to do if I'm not happy. They told me I could get 69 at the beginning, what did they tell you. I wait to see if that's right for me.

We have placed a order to modify your Fibre speeds. This will complete on 15/04/2013. your speeds will increase to 69 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload.

I ordered the Essentials Fibre package. I wasn't given an option to specify what download/upload speed I wanted. I'm guessing that is a feature of the Unlimited Fibre product?

As Oldjim says. Your maximum download speed is explained by him. Are you aware that you also have a peak-time 40GB allowance on that package, not Unlimited, and there is a period of evening speed management? (Unlimited usage overnight).

However there's still two things worrying me.

Your description of the upstream suggest you may be on a 40/2 connection rather than 40/10.

Secondly, as I said before, your download speeds should not be varying by anything like the amount you describe. But it seems from intervening posts that is an issue with your wireless connection?

Well this morning everything seems to be working ok.

I mentioned this thread on the support ticket last night, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. The last few speeds tests I have run this morning have given me these results

At this moment in time, I'm more than happy with this. But will bear in mind your comments about the peak time traffic shaping and Essentials being a 40/10 service.

True to their word they've updated the line from 40/2 today, a week after my move from O2 to fibre. My TB speedtest was 69/17 at noon. Seems pretty amazing to me. Well done Plusnet.
