ISPs do not know where you are migrating from or where the phone line is coming from unless you tell them. There is no system for them to contact the losing CP.In reply to a post by Stanman_24:hmm well plusnet did not tell idnet I was leaving
I had to do it myself
That's why they sent the relevant information to the other poster, for them to give to Orange.
In the case of a broadband migration it is Openreach's responsibility on completing the move to tell the losing ISP that the line is no longer with them. As was said earlier in the thread, that notification often fails or is ignored. You will find constant reminders on these forums to people migrating to ring the losing ISP as soon as it has happened.
In the case of phone line moving again it is Openreach's responsibility to tell the losing CP 2-3 weeks ahead of the move, thus giving the CP time to check with the customer that they requested this and cancel the move if they didn't. That is to prevent slamming, which used to happen a lot, in the same way as the MAC prevents slamming in most situations.
